Muddasani Kodandaram, (Telugu: ముద్దసాని కోదండరాం) also known as Prof. Kodandaram is a political activist and political leader.He is the founder of political party Telangana Jana Samithi, which was formed in March 2018. He was also the Chairman of the Telangana Joint Action Committee (T-JAC), which was formed with the goal of achieving a separate Telangana state in India.[1] He retired as a Professor of Political Science from Osmania University.[2]

Early life

Muddasani Kodandaram was born on September 5th, 1955 to M. Venkatamma and M. Janardhan Reddy, a farmer from Mancherial district in the Indian state of Telangana. His birthday aptly coincides with Teacher's Day in India. He has five sisters and a brother. He got married to Muddasani Susheela on March 30th, 1983.

Career

Kodandaram's early education took place in Mancherial and he eventually moved to Warangal where he completed a major part of his schooling and college. He witnessed the 1969 Telangana movement at a young age in Warangal. Professor Kodandaram moved to Hyderabad in 1976 to pursue his MA degree in Political Science at Osmania University. He was surrounded by many like minded people who were concerned about the state of democracy in India when emergency was declared during Indira Gandhi’s regime. After completing his MA degree., he went to Delhi to pursue MPhil degree in Political Science from Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU). He returned to Hyderabad on completion of his education to join the University of Hyderabad as a Research Scholar and joined Osmania University as Asst.Professor.He retired as a Professor of Political Science from Osmania University.

Telangana movement

In the last 35 years, Professor Kodandaram has founded and worked with many organizations that have all laid foundation for the creation of the state of Telangana. Some notable organizations and events he was a part of were Andhra Pradesh Civil Liberties Committee (APCLC), Human Rights Forum (HRF), Center for World Solidarity (CWS), World Social Forum and Telangana Vidyavanthula Vedika (TVV). He was also appointed as the Advisor to the Commissioner of the Supreme Court where he worked on the food security issue in India. He was also an activist on Polavaram displacement issues in the Godavari districts of Andhra Pradesh, India. Professor Kodandaram was responsible for the high court issuing a stay order to the state government to halt the Polavaram project temporarily. He directly worked with many prominent Telangana activists including the late Professor Jayashankar. As TVV was instrumental in uniting all organizations and laying the foundation for the separate Telangana movement, its key member Prof. Kodandaram was naturally the ideal person to lead the Telangana Joint Action Committee (TJAC). The TJAC, formed in December 2009 with Prof. Kodandaram as its convener went on to unite all political and non-political organizations under one roof and was responsible for the creation of Telangana. During the Telangana movement, the TJAC was responsible for some of the biggest political gatherings in history with successful programs like Sahaya Nirakarana, Million March, Vanta Vaarpu, Sakala Janula Samme, Sagara Haaram and ChalMaino Hyderabad.

Telangana Jana Samithi

He started his political party, Telangana Jana Samithi on 29th March 2018.
