Lucy Elizabeth Fallon (born 13 November 1995) is an English actress. She is best known for her portrayal of Bethany Platt in the ITV soap opera Coronation Street.

Early life

Fallon was born in Blackpool, Lancashire, to engineer Andrew Fallon and accountant Angela Fallon (née Ellis). She has two older sisters, Laura and Rachel.[1] Fallon grew up in Cleveleys.[2][3] She attended Hodgson Academy and then went to Blackpool Sixth Form College, where she achieved distinction star and two distinctions in her BTEC Extended Diploma Performing Arts.[3][4]

From the age of two, she studied singing, dancing and drama at the Barbara Jackson Theatre ArtCentre and since the age of eight, she had private drama classes and studied for LAMDA exams.[5] Fallon declined offers for the Mountview Academy of Theatre Arts and the ArtsEd to study Musical theatre for financial reasons.[2][5] Before landing her role in Coronation Street, she had several part-time jobs, including working at a bar on Blackpool Pier.[2] At the same time, she appeared as a dancer in the Blackpool Grand Theatre pantomimes.[5]

Career

On 29 January 2015, it was announced that Fallon had been cast as fourteen-year-old Bethany Platt in the ITV soap opera Coronation Street. Bethany had previously been played by child actors Mia Cookson and siblings Amy and Emily Walton between 2000 and 2007.[6] Fallon was nineteen when she was cast as Bethany.[7] Since joining the show her character was involved in numerous high-profile storylines, including the child grooming and sexual exploitation storyline, which received wide media attention and earned Fallon praise. The actress has won the 2017 Inside Soap Award for Best Actress,[8] the 2018 National Television Award for Serial Drama Performance[9] and the 2018 British Soap Awards for Best Actress and Best Female Dramatic Performance.[10]

Fallon competed in the ITV Christmas special All Star Musicals aired on 24 December 2017 and was voted the winner. Her rendition of "Don't Cry for Me Argentina" from the musical Evita received praise; Michael Crawford, who coached the show's contestants, was "absolutely mesmerised" by her singing and believed "we're going to hear a lot more about" her.[11]

Personal life

Fallon was in relationship with Ryan Roberts from 2013 to 2016.[12] In 2016, she started dating Tom Leech.[12]
