List of highest grossing Nepali films

Nepali films in present years are receiving commercial success frequently as the Entertainment Industry is booming throughout major cities of Nepal.The highest-grossing film was first held by Kusume Rumal that celebrated Rajat Jayanti in Nepal. Then its record was broken by all-time blockbuster musical Darpan Chayya directed by ace director Tulsi Ghimire. It was again replaced after many years when the highly influential movies, Loot (2012 film) and Chapali Height were released. Both became blockbuster hits and had a huge impact in the cinema-front while the former was received with wide critical acclaim. Then came box office tsunami in the form of Kohinoor directed by Akash Adhikari a social drama action thriller that was last film of evergreen actor Shree Krishna Shrestha before his death. The movies was first in history of NepalI cinema to cross NRP रु 10 crore mark at box office. The movie was surpassed by Chakka Panja directed by Deepa Shree Niraula which is also the first and only film till date to cross रु 20cr at the box office that had all time evergreen comedy TV series actors. The current Nepali film has three post popular and highest-paid actors in Nepal - Anmol K.C., Pradeep Khadka and Paul Shah who have been ruling box office in Nepal creating and breaking each other records in terms of their solo hit are concern. Aakash Shrestha, Pushpal Khadka, Sushil Shrestha and Aaryam Adhikari became popular in this era too Though Nepali film were dominated by foreign movies, arrival of Anmol K.C and TV Comedy stars marked resurgence of Nepali films .If we look at the history Bhuwan K.C. (father of Anmol K.C.) and Shiva Shrestha were two biggest superstars in the 1980s era where Nepali film was dominant at domestic box office. While Bhuwan K.C. was famous for romantic films while Shiva Shrestha was typical action hero. Then came era of one of the biggest superstar actors of Nepali cinematc history, Rajesh Hamal, who was biggest mass hero of Kollywood and was dominant in the 1990s and early 2000s along with Bhuwan K.C., Saroj Khanal and Shiva Shrestha. Rajesh Hamal is given title of Mahanayak (great actor) and mid-2000s saw rise of evergreen superstar Shree Krishna Shrestha, who was a talented dancer too. Then came the mid-2000s, where action film was dominant and so was Nikhil Uprety, the biggest action hero, who was famous as a martial artist too. This era also had actors like Biraj Bhatt and Dilip Rayamajhi being famous too. Though there is not particular resource established for accurate box office figures, below are the list based on figures provided by producers, distributors and some news portals. From 2070 BS Nepali movie got recognition. The highest grossing Nepali film in Nepal is Chakka Panja with gross of रु 20 crore and in overseas is Kalo Pothi with gross over रु 5cr.
