South Korean boy band Big Bang have won numerous awards and nominations for their music since their debut in 2006 under YG Entertainment. At the 2007 Mnet KM Music Festival, Big Bang was nominated in five categories, winning two: Song of the Year for “Lies” and Best Male Artist. At the 2008 Seoul Music Awards, Big Bang won all three categories they were nominated in, including Artist of the Year and Record of the Year Digital Release for “Lies”. A year later, they were awarded Artist of the Year and Best Male Group and at the 2008 Mnet KM Music Festival. Their second studio album Remember was awarded Record of the Year at the 2009 Seoul Music Awards. Overseas, Big Bang won the Best New Artist award at the 2009 Japan Record Awards.

Their fourth Korean EP Tonight yielded two singles, “Tonight” and "Love Song", with the latter winning Song of the Year (April) at the 1st Gaon Chart Music Awards and Best Music Video at the 2011 Mnet Asian Music Awards. The same year, Big Bang was presented the first ever award for Best Worldwide Act at the 2011 MTV Europe Music Awards. At the 2012 Mnet Asian Music Awards, Big Bang were nominated in six categories, winning three including Artist of the Year and Best Male Group. They were also awarded the Guardian Angel award at the same ceremony following the success of their Alive Tour. Alive and its singles “Blue” and “Fantastic Baby” won Album of the Year (1st Quarter) and Song of the Year for February and March respectively at the 2nd Gaon Chart Music Awards.

In 2015, Big Bang was the most nominated and awarded act at the Mnet Asian Music Awards, winning four out of eight nominations, including Artist of the Year, Song of the Year for “Bang Bang Bang”, and Best Music Video for “Bae Bae”. At the Melon Music Awards, they were nominated in five categories winning four, including Artist of the Year and Song of the Year for “Bang Bang Bang”. The group won Song of the Year and Pop Song of the Year for “Bae Bae” and “Loser” respectively at the Korean Music Awards. At the 2016 Golden Disc Awards, they won three categories including Song of the Year for “Loser”. At the 5th Gaon Chart Music Awards, Big Bang won Song of the Year for four consecutive months from May to August with their singles from Made: “Loser”, “Bang Bang Bang”, “If You”, and “Let’s Not Fall In Love”. At the 6th Gaon Chart Music Awards, Big Bang won Song of the Year (December) for “Fxxk It”.

The Golden Disc Awards is a music awards show founded in 1986 that is presented annually by the Music Industry Association of Korea for outstanding achievements in the music industry in South Korea. The Main Award (Disk Bonsang) is awarded up to 10 best artists by calculating album and digital sales with online vote and a final judgement by the judges of the award ceremony. The Grand Prize award (Disk Daesang) is equivalent Artist of the Year, is awarded to the performer of the best full-length album nominated from the Disk Bonsang.

The Mnet Asian Music Awards (abbreviated as a MAMA), formerly "M.net KM Music Festival" (MKMF) (1999–2008), is a major K-pop music award show that is held by Mnet Media annually in South Korea. Daesang Award (Grand Prize) is equivalent Artist of the Year.
