This is a list of notable current and former members of United States Naval Special Warfare Command's Navy SEALs and Underwater Demolition Teams. Founded in 1962, the SEALs are the U.S. Navy's principal special operations force. The name "SEALs" represents the environments in which they operate: Sea, Air and Land. Navy SEALs are trained and have been deployed in a wide variety of missions, including direct action, special reconnaissance, unconventional warfare, foreign internal defense, hostage rescue, counter-terrorism, and other missions.

• Matthew "Axe" Axelson – Navy Cross. KIA during Operation Red Wings. BUD/S Class 237.
• Kristin Beck – Former DEVGRU member. After retiring Beck came out as a transgender woman in 2013, changed her name to Kristen and authored Warrior Princess.
• Matt Bissonnette – Former DEVGRU (Red Squadron) and Team 5 member. Authored No Easy Day He was on the Osama bin Laden raid, and fired shots into the terrorist's body as bin Laden died. Graduated BUD/S class 226.
• Roy Boehm – WWII veteran of Coral Sea, Bougainville, Truk, Green Island, Emeru, Saipan, Tinian and Guam. First commanding officer of SEAL Team 2 (1962), considered godfather of all SEALs. Class 13 EC.
• Rudy Boesch – Founding member of SEAL Team 2 in 1962 & Vietnam veteran. He was a competitor in the TV reality shows Survivor and Survivor: All-Stars, and host of the reality series Combat Missions. Former "Bullfrog" or longest-serving active-duty SEAL member. BUD/S Class 6 EC.
• Matt Bracken – BUDS class 105, Seal officer, served in Beirut. Author of "Enemies Foreign and Domestic" series and conservative political commentator who has published or been interviewed on InfoWars, Instapundit, and other right of center sites.^[1]
• Clell W. Breining – Former Force Master Chief of Naval Special Warfare.^[2]
• Thomas L. Brown II – Former commander of Special Operations Command South and former commander of Naval Special Warfare Group ONE.
• Phil H. Bucklew – First commanding officer, Naval Operations Support Group 1 (later renamed Naval Special Warfare Group 1), twice awarded the Navy Cross and considered the "Father of Modern SPECWAR."
• Edward C. Byers Jr – Medal of Honor recipient; distinguished himself by heroic gallantry as an Assault Team Member attached to a Joint Task Force in support of Operation Enduring Freedom on 8 December 2012 when he rescued an American hostage (Dr. Dilip Joseph) in a remote area beside a mountain in the Qarghah’i District of Laghman Province, Afghanistan. BUD/S Class 242.^[3]
• James F. Cahill – First person to scuba dive in New England waters, founder of first retail scuba diving chain, one of the first UDT members.
• Albert Calland – Retired Vice Admiral, commanding officer of SEAL Team 1 (1992–1995); Naval Special Warfare Development Group (1997–99); Naval Special Warfare Command (2002–04) and Deputy Director of the Central Intelligence Agency. Graduate of the US Naval Academy (Class of 1974) and BUD/S Class 82 in 1975.
• Christopher Cassidy – NASA Astronaut, SEAL Platoon Commander at SEAL Team 3 & SEAL Delivery Vehicle Team 2. Graduate of the US Naval Academy (Class of 1993). BUD/S class 192.
• Dennis Chalker – Retired Master Chief & founding member of SEAL Team 6 and Red Cell. BUD/S Class 101.
• Dick Couch – Author of several books on SEALs including The Warrior Elite: Forging of SEAL Class 228, The Finishing School, and Down Range: Navy SEALs in the War on Terrorism. Couch is a graduate of the US Naval Academy (Class of 1967) and BUD/S class 45 (1969).
• Cade Courtley – Actor, contestant on the reality series Combat Missions, and host of Spike's Surviving Disaster. BUD/S class 202.
• Roger Crossland – BUD/S class 58, SEAL Team 1, UDT-12; entitled to wear the Presidential Unit Commendation ribbon for service in Vietnam; started and commanded Naval Reserve SEAL Team 2; recruited to the SEALs by Richard Marcinko; a Naval War College graduate who has written internationally on the subject of maritime unconventional warfare including the U.S. Naval Institute Proceedings^[4] and the New York Times; author of Red Ice^[5] and The Jade Rooster,^[6]
• Rorke Denver – SEAL Team 3. Former BUD/S first phase instructor. Starred in Act of Valor.
• Danny Dietz – Killed during Operation Red Wings in Kunar Province, Afghanistan. BUD/S class 232. Navy Cross.
• Mark Divine – BUD/S Class 170 honor man. SEAL Team 3 Platoon Commander. Author and founder SEALFIT.^[7][8][9]
• Glen Doherty – Served in the Navy 9 years. Worked extensively as an independent security specialist. He was KIA in Benghazi, Libya in 2012. Co-authored the book Navy SEAL Sniper with Brandon Webb.
• Mark L. Donald – Navy Cross Recipient during Operation Enduring Freedom
• John G. Gay — Silver Star recipient ^[10], one of four members of DEVGRU who participated in the First Battle of Mogadishu alongside Howard E. Wasdin. In Mark Bowden's novel, Black Hawk Down, Gay is noted to have narrowly avoided a fatal gunshot wound when his Randall combat knife deflected an AK-47 round from shattering his femur. ^[11]
• David Goggins – BUD/S Class 235, Top Honor Man, served on SEAL Team 5. Goggins is the only member in the U.S. Armed Forces to complete SEAL training, Ranger School and Air Force Tactical Air Controller training.^[12] Also an ultra-marathon runner, motivational speaker, and world record holder.
• Eric Greitens – Governor of Missouri, Founder and Chairman of The Mission Continues, Rhodes Scholar. BUD/S class 237.
• Robert Harward – Former commanding officer, SEAL Team 3 and Naval Special Warfare Group ONE. DEVGRU assault team leader and graduate of the US Naval Academy (Class of 1979). Graduated BUD/S class 128 in 1984.
• Scott Helvenston – Youngest SEAL in history to complete BUD/S; worked as private military contractor in Operation Iraqi Freedom. He was killed during an ambush in Fallujah, Iraq in March 2004.^[13] BUD/S class 122.
• Carl Higbie – Former member of SEAL Team Ten Echo Platoon who led the raid capturing the Butcher of Fallujah and author of Enemies, Foreign & Domestic: A SEAL's Story and Battle on the Home Front. BUD/S class 253.
• Frank Hoagland – Ohio State Senate, Senator representing 30th District served with SEAL Team 4 and DEVGRU.
• P. Gardner Howe, III – Former commander of Special Operations Command Pacific, Naval Special Warfare Group THREE and Naval Special Warfare Unit THREE.
• Harry Humphries – Silver Star recipient, Vietnam veteran, Hollywood actor and technical advisor for films. Class 29 EC.
• Larsen Jensen – A former American freestyle swimmer and two-time Olympic medalist.
• Ryan Job – SEAL Operator 2nd Class. SEAL Team 3. Died during reconstructive surgery after leaving the navy.^[14]
• Richard Kaiser— A Silver Star recipient and former member of SEAL Team 2 and a DEVGRU team leader who participated in the First Battle of Mogadishu alongside Howard E. Wasdin. He is currently the Executive Director of the National Navy UDT-SEAL museum in Fort Pierce, Florida. ^{[15] [16]}
• Charles Keating IV – Navy Cross recipient. Killed in action during an Islamic State attack in Operation Inherent Resolve. Graduated BUD/S Class 266 in 2008.
• Joseph D. Kernan – Former commanding officer, SEAL Team 2, United States Naval Special Warfare Development Group and Naval Special Warfare Command. Graduate of the US Naval Academy (Class of 1977), BUD/S Class 117.
• Bob Kerrey – Medal of Honor recipient; Democratic U.S. Senator from Nebraska (1989–2001); and president of The New School from 2001 to 2010. BUD/S class 42.
• Jonny Kim – BUD/S Class 247, SEAL Team 3 Sniper; Graduate of Harvard Medical School (M.D.); NASA Astronaut Candidate; Silver Star and Bronze Star with Combat "V" device.
• Erik S. Kristensen – Graduate of the US Naval Academy (Class of 1995), killed during rescue mission as part of Operation Red Wings. BUD/S class 233.
• Alexander L. Krongard – Former commanding officer, SEAL Team 7 and Naval Special Warfare Group ONE.^[17] Former member of DEVGRU from 1990 to 1993. Graduate of the Princeton University and the Navy Officer Candidate School.
• Chris Kyle – "Deadliest marksman in American military history". Claimed 255 sniper kills with 160 confirmed. Formerly with SEAL Team 3. Graduated from BUD/S Class 233 in 2001.
• Kevin Lacz – Former SEAL Team 3 sniper, New York Times Bestselling author of "The Last Punisher" and actor and technical advisor in Oscar winning Chris Kyle biopic 'American Sniper'. BUD/s Class 246.
• Frank J. Larkin – Sergeant at Arms of the United States Senate and retired United States Secret Service agent^[18]
• Kaj Larsen – Former SEAL lieutenant and journalist formerly of CNN, CurrentTV, and Current's Emmy-winning investigative journalism series Vanguard. BUD/S Class 237.
• Marc Alan Lee – Lee was the first SEAL killed in combat during Operation Iraqi Freedom. Bronze Star with Valor, Purple Heart. BUD/S Class 251. SEAL Team 3.
• Brian L. Losey – Former commander of Naval Special Warfare Command, former commander of Combined Joint Task Force – Horn of Africa, former commander of DEVGRU from 2005 to 2007.
• Michael D. Lumpkin – BUD/S class 162, retired SEAL commander. Appointed by the President as Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for Special Operations/Low Intensity Conflict In April 2011. Previously he served as Senior Advisor to the Secretary at the Department of Veterans Affairs.
• Marcus Luttrell – Navy Cross recipient for heroism, sole survivor of Operation Red Wings. BUD/S class 228.
• Richard "Dick" Lyon – First Bullfrog (Longest serving active duty member of the U.S. Navy SEAL's), also stated as BULLFROG 1. First SEAL to achieve the rank of admiral in US Navy history.
• Richard Machowicz, a.k.a. "Mack" – Former SEAL and founder of Bukido training system and host of Discovery Channel's Futureweapons and is a co-host on Spike's Deadliest Warrior. BUD/S class 136.
• Joseph Maguire – Former commanding officer, SEAL Team 2 and commanding officer at Naval Special Warfare Center. Served in UDT 21, SEAL Team 2, SEAL Delivery Vehicle Team 2 & United States Naval Special Warfare Development Group. BUD/S class 93
• Richard Marcinko – Served two combat tours in Vietnam before serving as commanding officer of SEAL Team TWO (1974–1976). First commanding officer of United States Naval Special Warfare Development Group from Oct 1980 to July 1983 and Red Cell from 1984 to 1986; and co-author of New York Times bestseller Rogue Warrior. BUD/S class 26.
• Donald L. McFaul – Killed in action during Operation Just Cause and posthumously awarded the Navy Cross for heroism. BUD/S class 95.
• William H. McRaven – Former commanding officer of SEAL Team 3 and commander of the Joint Special Operations Command. Former commander of U.S. Special Operations Command.
• Michael A. Monsoor – Posthumous Medal of Honor recipient for jumping on an enemy hand grenade during a firefight in Iraq to save fellow SEALs. BUD/S class 250 in 2004.
• Scott P. Moore – Former commanding officer of SEAL Team 2 and United States Naval Special Warfare Development Group from 2007 to 2009. Graduate of the United States Air Force Academy (Class of 1983). Graduated from BUD/S Class 126 in January 1984.^[19]
• Faauuga Muagututia – A competitor for American Samoa at the 1994 Winter Olympics in the bobsleigh.^[20]
• Michael P. Murphy – Medal of Honor recipient, exposed himself to fire while calling in support during Operation Red Wings in Operation Enduring Freedom. BUD/S class 236.
• Thomas R. Norris – Vietnam veteran, Medal of Honor recipient and retired FBI agent. BUD/S class 45. Founding member of FBI Hostage Rescue Team in 1983.
• Eric T. Olson – Veteran of The First Battle of Mogadishu, Silver Star recipient, commanding officer of United States Naval Special Warfare Development Group from 1994 to 1997. Former commander, Naval Special Warfare Command. First SEAL to achieve the rank of vice admiral and four-star admiral; the first Navy officer to command U.S. Special Operations Command. Graduate of the US Naval Academy (Class of 1973). BUD/S class 76.
• Robert O'Neill – Allegedly fired the fatal shots into Osama bin Laden during Operation Neptune Spear in 2011 with DEVGRU. Also participated in the rescue of Captain Richard Phillips during the Maersk Alabama hijacking as well as the rescue of Marcus Luttrell during Operation Red Wings. Later a motivational speaker and author of 'The Operator'. BUD/S Class 208.
• William Owens – SEAL operator. Graduated BUD/S Class 239. Killed in action during the Yakla raid in Yemen.
• Matthew Paradise – enlisted in 1985, was assigned to SEAL Team Two after graduating BUD/S. Became an officer, F/A-18 pilot and ultimately captain of the aircraft carrier USS Carl Vinson.^[21]
• Shane E. Patton – Died while conducting combat operations, when the MH-47 helicopter he was aboard on a rescue operation was shot down and crashed in Kunar Province. Petty Officer 2nd Class. Bronze Star with Combat “V” for Valor, Purple Heart.
• William H. Payne – New Mexico State Senator, SEAL Team 1 – Deputy Commander Naval Special Warfare Command, Coronado, Calif. and Deputy/Director of Operations, Center for Special Operations, U.S. Special Operations Command, MacDill Air Force Base, Fla. Drafted the SEAL Cold Weather Operations Manual – Rear Adm.. – BUD/S Class 89
• Charles "Chuck" Pfarrer – SEAL Team 4 and DEVGRU operator from 1984 to 1987; screenwriter with credits including The Jackal, Darkman, Red Planet, Virus, Hard Target, Navy SEALs; and author of the New York Times bestseller SEAL Target Geronimo: Inside The Mission to Kill Osama Bin Laden, Warrior Soul: The Memoir of a Navy SEAL and the reality-thriller Killing Che. BUD/S class 114 in 1981.
• Erik Prince – Founder, former CEO, and current Chairman of the Board of Xe, formerly known as Blackwater, a private military contractor. BUD/S class 188.
• Sean A. Pybus – Retired Vice Admiral and commanding officer, Naval Special Warfare Command from 2011–2013. Served as commander, Special Operations Command Pacific from 2009–2011. Graduated from BUD/S training Class 105 in 1979.^[22]
• Neil C. Roberts, a.k.a. "Fifi" – First Navy SEAL killed during Operation Anaconda in 2002. BUD/S class 184.
• Theodore Roosevelt IV – Vietnam-era UDT and great-grandson of President Theodore Roosevelt, BUD/s class 36.
• Craig Sawyer, a.k.a. "Sawman" – Grew up near Houston, TX and served in the United States Marine Corps. He transitioned to the Navy to pursue special operations career as a SEAL. He served at SEAL Team 1 and sniper at DEVGRU. BUD/S class 149.
• William M. Shepherd – First SEAL in Space, first American commander of the International Space Station. BUD/S class 64.
• Don Shipley – Former SEAL, retired in 2003. Served in SEAL Teams 1 and 2. Former BUD/S and NSW Demolitions instructor. Graduated BUD/S class 131 in 1984.
• Britt K. Slabinski – Medal of Honor recipient for actions in Afghanistan (upgraded in 2018 from previous Navy Cross award). Former member of DEVGRU from 1994 to 2008 and former command master chief of Naval Special Warfare Group 2.^[23] and Navy Cross recipient for heroism during Operation Anaconda in 2002.^[24] BUD/S class 164 in 1990.
• Raymond Smith – Retired Rear Admiral, retired in 2001. Served as Deputy Commander of United States Special Operations Command. Former commanding officer of CO SEAL Delivery Team 1 and director of Basic Underwater Demolition/SEAL (BUD/S) training from 1981–83. Graduate of the US Naval Academy (Class of 1967). Graduated BUD/S in 1970 and served as a Platoon commander during Vietnam War.^[25]
• Steven Studdard – Former Command Master Chief (CMDCM) of Naval Special Warfare Group TWO, former member of DEVGRU and former Force Master Chief of Naval Special Warfare.BUD/S class 137 in 1986.^[26][27]
• Tim Szymanski – Former commanding officer of SEAL Team 2 and Naval Special Warfare Group 2.^[23][28] Former troop, squadron commander, operations officer and deputy commanding officer of DEVGRU. Graduate of the US Naval Academy (Class of 1985). BUD/S Class 161 in 1989. Currently slated to lead the Naval Special Warfare Command in summer 2016.^[29]
• Scott Taylor – U.S. Representative for Virginia's 2nd congressional district
• Michael E. Thornton – Medal of Honor recipient from the Vietnam War, founding member of DEVGRU.
• Mike Troy – Two-time Olympic gold medalist and former world record-holder. Received Silver Star in Vietnam.
• Perry F. Van Hooser – Former commanding officer, DEVGRU.^[30] Graduate of the Virginia Military Institute in 1971 and former United States Marine Corps officer.^[31] Lost his lower leg from an injury in a parachuting accident.
• Jesse Ventura – BUD/S class 58, served on UDT-12 and Reserve SEAL Team 1. Former pro wrestler, governor of Minnesota.
• Howard E. Wasdin – Author of SEAL Team Six: Memoirs of an Elite Navy Sniper and former member of DEVGRU. BUD/S Class 143.
• Brandon Webb – Former Navy SEAL, member of Team 3 and SEAL Sniper Head Instructor. BUD/S class 215.
• Chad Williams – Member of NSW 2004-2010, trained with Scott Helvenston prior to enlisting, served on SEAL Teams One & Seven. Following retirement from the navy, he authored SEAL of God and became a Christian motivational speaker and guest commentator on news channels.^[32][33]
• Jocko Willink – Received the Silver Star and Bronze Star for his actions in the Iraq War. Willink was commander of SEAL Team 3's Task Unit Bruiser during the 2006 Battle of Ramadi. Author of the book Extreme Ownership along with fellow SEAL, Leif Babin. Hosts a weekly podcast, The Jocko Podcast, with friend and fellow Brazilian jiu-jitsu practitioner, Echo Charles. Founded the leadership consulting company, Echelon Front, with Babin. BUD/S Class 177.
• Edward G. Winters, III – Retired Rear Admiral and former commanding officer of United States Naval Special Warfare Development Group (2003–2005) and Naval Special Warfare Command (2008–2011). Graduated BUD/S Class 112 in May 1981.^[34]
• Brandon Wolff – Former American mixed martial artist. Graduated BUD/S Class 222.
• Tyrone S. Woods - BUD/S Class 177, retired after 20 years in the Navy as Senior Chief Special Warfare Operator (SCPO). He then went on to serve as a security contractor for the CIA, under the cover of a Diplomat and VIP protection specialist for the US State Department's Diplomatic Security Service. It was during one of these assignments that he was killed in action during the 2012 Benghazi attack.
• Ryan Zinke – Retired Navy Commander and former team member of DEVGRU, elected to at-large U.S. House seat from Montana.^[35] Nominated by President Donald J. Trump to serve as Secretary of the Interior.^[36] Graduated BUD/S class 136 in 1986.
