The episodes of the Japanese anime series Inuyasha are based on the first 36 volumes of the manga series of the same title by Rumiko Takahashi.[1] The series follows half-demon Inuyasha and a high school girl Kagome Higurashi on a journey, alongside their friends, a young fox demon, Shippo; a lecherous monk, Miroku; a demon slayer, Sango; and a demon cat, Kirara, to obtain the fragments of the shattered Jewel of Four Souls, a powerful jewel that had been hidden inside Kagome's body, and keep the shards from being used for evil, including by the half-demon Naraku.
Produced by Sunrise, the series premiered in Japan on Animax on October 16, 2000 and ran for 167 episodes until its conclusion on September 13, 2004. It also aired on Animax's English-language networks in South Asia and East Asia and it was broadcast on Yomiuri TV and Nippon Television. The English dub of the series aired on Cartoon Network's programming block, Adult Swim, from August 31, 2002 through October 27, 2006. In Canada, the series aired on YTV.
A second anime series, Inuyasha: The Final Act, premiered on October 3, 2009 and covers the final volumes of the manga series.[2][3][4]

| Kagome Higurashi, a 15-year-old girl living in present day Japan of 1997, goes searching for her lost cat in her family shrine only to find that a terrible demon has revived in the shrine well. The demon, named Mistress Centipede, grabs Kagome and drags her down the well. After falling through the well, she finds herself transported back in time to a village in Feudal Japan. There, Kagome encounters the Priestess Kaede, who senses Kagome is the reincarnation of Kikyo, Kaede's dead sister who was a powerful priestess. The village is soon attacked by Mistress Centipede who followed Kagome through the well and who is searching for the Shikon Jewel, a stone of unbelievable power. While in Feudal Japan, Kagome also crosses paths with the dog hanyō Inuyasha. She first encounters him nailed to a huge tree by arrows and believes he is dead. When she removes the arrows, she is surprised to find he is alive. He explains that he was imprisoned by Sacred Arrows and bound to the Sacred Tree until she released him. Now released, Inuyasha is able to defeat Mistress Centipede with his super human powers. During the fight with Mistress Centipede, Kaede sees a jewel emerge from Kagome's chest. Kaede recognizes the stone as the Shikon Jewel and bestows in on Kagome, because Kaede says Kagome is the rightful heir to its power. | |||

| After being released from the Sacred Tree by Kagome, Inuyasha plans to steal the Shikon Jewel, using its powers to become a yōkai. Kaede casts the Beads of Subjugation onto Inuyasha, allowing Kagome the power to control him with a spoken word. Inuyasha and Kagome later chase a crow demon that steals and absorbs the Shikon Jewel. | With the Shikon Jewel shattered, each shard has the ability to enhance the power of a yōkai. Inuyasha fumes at the thought of having to collect the scattered pieces of the Shikon Jewel. Kagome soon falls into the Bone Eater's Well, after being raided by Yura, who steals a shard of the Shikon Jewel from Kagome. Meanwhile, Inuyasha must face the human marionettes controlled by Yura, but he flees due to Kaede's brutal injury. | |||

| Kagome realizes that the spirit world is an illusion in order to find out the location of Inu no Taisho's tomb. Just before Inuyasha is completely absorbed by the Mu-onna, Kagome manages to free him, however Sesshomaru finds out that the tomb was hidden in a Black Pearl deep within Inuyasha's right eye. Sesshomaru activates a portal from the Black Pearl, as Inuyasha and Kagome follow right behind him. Inside the tomb therein lies Tetsusaiga, Inu no Taisho's legendary sword, for which Inuyasha fights Sesshomaru for its possession. | |||

| Kagome is able remove Tetsusaiga from its altar, in which later gives to Inuyasha. After Sesshomaru reminds Inuyasha that the latter is a half-breed yōkai, the former reverts to his dog yōkai form to test the power of the sword, climbing their way to the top of the tomb. | Inuyasha and Kagome meet a young samurai named Amari Nobunaga. He leads them to a castle where a vengeful toad yōkai has possessed the reigning prince. At nightfall, the three infiltrate the castle in order to rescue the captivated Princess Tsuyu. The toad yōkai prince, who has a shard of the Shikon Jewel within him, attacks them and takes Tsuyu to a room full of the souls of women. The others soon arrive and manage to free Tsuyu. Inuyasha and Kagome are able to case out the toad yōkai and claim its shard of the Shikon Jewel. | |||

| A battle ensues between Inuyasha and Hiten. Meanwhile, Shippo uses his illusory tricks in order distract Manten from Kagome. Inuyasha successfully murders Manten with Tetsusaiga. Hiten bites into Manten's forehead to fuse himself with the shards of the Shikon Jewel obtained, increasing twofold in strength. Separated from Tetsusaiga, Inuyasha seems powerless to defeat Hiten. However, the sword is summoned by the sheath, allowing Inuyasha to deliver the final blow. | |||

| Kagome returns to the present to go back to school. Kagome's grandfather is attacked by an ancient Noh mask that has broken the talismans, in which he is admitted to a hospital. The Noh mask will stop at nothing to gain a body of its own. Kagome must protect the shards of the Shikon Jewel from the Noh mask. | Inuyasha spots a benevolent yōkai called the Tatarimokke, leading the souls of dead children with its tune. It is harmless when its eyes remain closed, but it becomes fearsome when its eyes are opened. Meanwhile, Kagome has found the vengeful spirit of Mayu, the older sister of Sota's comatose friend Satoru. Mayu is a likely candidate to be taken to the underworld unless she relieves herself of hatred over her mother and jealousy over her younger brother. | |||

| Inuyasha, Kagome and Shippo save a girl named Nazuna from being attacked by spider heads. The priest of a nearby shrine allows the three to stay, with the protection of sutras. After they are attacked by spider heads at night, Kagome and Shippo soon discover that Inuyasha becomes fully human on the phase of the new moon. It is learned that the priest is disguised as a spider head, as Inuyasha is vulnerable against him. At sunrise, Inuyasha is able to destroy the spider head. | |||

| At midnight, Inuyasha glimpses at an ogress sorceress demon named Urasue, who carries the scent of graveyard soil and the blood of Kaede. Inuyasha, Kagome and Shippo go to the village in the morning, where they soon learn the ashes of Kikyo were stolen. The three vow to assist Kaede in recovering the ashes thereupon. Meanwhile, Urasue has reawakened the body of Kikyo, but is disappointed to deduce that the soul has already been reincarnated. | |||

| Urasue kidnaps Kagome in order to bring Kikyo back to life. The conveyed soul exits from Kagome and enters into Kikyo when Inuyasha unwittingly calls out the name of the latter. When Inuyasha cries out in pain, Kagome calls the soul back into her body, leaving Kikyo wallowing in hatred. Inuyasha tries to save Kikyo from falling off a cliff, but to no avail. | Miroku is introduced as a lecherous young monk, in search of the shards of the Shikon Jewel. He encounters Kagome and discreetly steals her shards of the Shikon Jewel. Inuyasha soon trails him to an okiya in hopes to retrieve them. Miroku unleashes the void of the Wind Tunnel cursed in his right hand, however Kagome prevents him in doing so. Miroku then reveals the source of his curse, which was inflicted upon by the yōkai Naraku, who has been after the Shikon Jewel for fifty years. | |||

| A wandering artist is banished from a castle, after being denied his unique skills as a warlord. Miroku notices ink demons surrounding the castle, in which they are paintings created by the artist. It is unveiled that a shard of the Shikon Jewel is responsible for bringing these paintings to life. Miroku uses the Wind Tunnel to draw the ink demons into the void. The shard of the Shikon Jewel must be recovered before the artist tries to escape. Nonetheless, the ink demons actually devours the flesh of the artist, due to his malevolent ambitions. | |||

| Sesshomaru receives from Naraku a human arm with a shard of the Shikon Jewel embedded in it as a means to wield Tetsusaiga. Sesshomaru approaches Inuyasha, demanding the ownership of the sword. As Jaken summons demonic souls hidden in the mountains, Sesshomaru demonstrates the power of Tetsusaiga. While Miroku defends using the Wind Tunnel, Sessomaru liberates the demonic wasps known as the Saimyōshō, as Miroku discovers that these wasps are able to poison his right hand. | |||

Naraku soon unleashes a corrupted Rouyakan upon the three, inasmuch as Inuyasha is in a weakened state. After Miroku is found by the others, it is discovered that a demon worm charmer is controlling Mushin. | As Inuyasha and Kohaku engage in combat, Sango succumbs to stealing Tetsusaiga and absconds away. Koga, the leader of the eastern wolf yōkai tribe, is seen attacking the villagers, in search for the shards of the Shikon Jewel. Though it seems Miroku will be the next victim, he is surprisingly able to resist seduction and free the spirit of the princess from the coyote demon that stole it, allowing her to pass on. Sango slays the demon, but at the cost of Hiraikostu being cracked. Miroku and Sango almost have a romantic moment, but he rubs her behind again, earning a slap. | ||||

Within the cave, Kohaku kindly protects Rin from the emerging demons and urges her to escape. Sesshomaru stops holding a grudge towards Kohaku, seeing Rin was protected and uninjured. | Shintaro, the young son of the village headman, pleads for help when his father fails to return for two weeks from a shrine on Hijiri Island in the middle of a misty lake. The villagers believe that the village is cursed due to the absence of the headman. Inuyasha and his companions travel with Shintaro to the island, being the source of the same purified scent of the demon puppet. Bankotsu appears to fight Inuyasha yet again. To make matters worse, Inuyasha's Tetsusaiga is rendered powerless against Bankotsu's Banryu. It is explained that Saint Hakushin, the monk of the shrine, is responsible for putting up a barrier surrounding the mountain and the island. Renkotsu is bruised by Koga, who attempts to remove the shard of the Shikon Jewel from his throat. Ginkotsu destructs the area, sending his shard of the Shikon Jewel to Renkotsu. | When their paths are crossed, Kikyo confronts Bankotsu, who claims he is fearless of the afterlife. Jaken and Rin encounter Suikotsu on a log bridge, but they plummet after the log bridge collapses. Sesshomaru is to fight Jakotsu, but chooses to go search for Rin after finding Jaken. Rin is met with the good persona of Suikotsu in a forest, as he brings her back to his village. However, his evil persona takes over, and Jakotsu takes custody of Rin. It is apparent that Suikotsu struggles with his two personae while attempting to kill the orphaned children of the village. | ||||

| Sesshomaru is beguiled into the barrier of the mountain, being forced to combat against Jakotsu. Sesshomaru then manages to pierce his hand into Jakotsu and throw his sword into Suikotsu. However, the two remain alive due to the tainted shards of the Shikon Jewel in each of their throats. Kikyo arrives and interrupts the battle, implanting a Sacred Arrow in Suikotsu, hence purifying his shard of the Shikon Jewel. Suikotsu, finally free of his evil persona, reveals the origins of his conflicting personalities. He explains that his bad persona arose as he first killed someone with his own hands. | Renkotsu vows to avenge Ginkotsu’s destruction after recovering from Koga's battle, preparing his artillery for an assault. Inuyasha is mentioned to have carried Koga to a cave near a waterfall to recover, much to his dismay. Renkotsu distracts Inuyasha with the Saimyōshō while he ignites the waterfall into flames, later sending him attacks of ammunition. After entering the cave, Renkotsu threatens to light incendiary devices to obtain Koga's shards of the Shikon Jewel, however Inuyasha sends Renkotsu into the river of flames, causing a huge eruption. Meanwhile, Jakotsu gives Suikotsu's shard of the Shikon Jewel to Bankotsu, who happily thanks him. Inuyasha decides to enter the barrier in order to find Miroku and Sango, but finds himself in trouble when confronted by Renkotsu. Saint Hakushin explains that he fell ill during a time of famine in his village, swearing to protect the village after his death. Elsewhere, Bankotsu is aware of Renkotsu's motives, as the former takes two shards of the Shikon Jewel from the throat of latter. The two duel to the death, trying to prove who has more power. Upon defeating him, Bankotsu removes the last shard of the Shikon Jewel from Renkotsu's throat as payment for his betrayal. They are met by an elderly priest, who tells about Kikyo being washed up at the end of a riverbank two days prior on the other side of the mountain. Inuyasha goes in that direction in hopes of finding her. When a group of soldiers captures Kagome, along with Miroku and Sango, she finds out that she has been tricked by Kagura. While Miroku and Sango are surrounded by the soldiers, Kagome becomes ensnared by the darkness in her heart, as The Infant, the seventh incarnation of Naraku whom Kagura took from the mountain, takes control of her. | ||||

Meanwhile, Miroku urges Inuyasha to prevent Kagome from being kidnapped a second time. Kagome is frustrated that she must be the star attraction of the cultural festival, yet she is able to appreciate her active role in participation. During her theatrical performance, Inuyasha interrupts the play, in which Kagome must ad-lib to evade the scene. | A young man named Kisuke turns to Inuyasha and his companions for help when maidens are being kidnapped by demons using a golden diadem to control them, mentioning that the remaining maidens were forced to reside in a nearby cave. The demons are recognized as the folklore characters of Journey to the West,[19] being the heavenly spirits who had accompanied the Buddhist monk Tripitaka. Chokyukai, as a descendant of Pigsy, wears the necklace of skulls worn by Sandy, bewitching the maidens using a diadem similar to that worn by the Monkey King. Chokyukai asks Kagome to be his bride, thrilled with her knowledge about his ancestors. Kagome is soon allured by the diadem, to which she is later abducted. Inuyasha and his companions elaborately try to distract Chokyukai in order to find and free Kagome. The young fox yōkai manipulate Shippo to fight against a salamander demon, but he chooses to avoid the situation. They later convince him into betraying Mizuki, much to his dismay. As they are to investigate, they find themselves helping a young man named Shinnosuke to search for his lost lady love named Wakana. They all are invited to spend the night at the village. Miroku and Sango are separately reminded of their moment together at Mount Hakurei. Miroku falls prey into flirtation and is accompanied to a shrine, leading to an encounter with the head of an oni Sango soon becomes captured and shackled inside a cave, being forced to swallow a salamander egg in order to be possessed. | Inuyasha, Kagome and Shippo are surrounded by the possessed women of the village. The head of the oni explains that her body was sealed into a scroll desiring the need for the flesh of men to return to her human form. The head of the oni is revealed itself as a salamander demon. Inuyasha must defeat the salamander demon while Miroku uses his Sacred Sutras to save the women from being possessed any further, in which they regurgitate salamanders from their stomachs. Miroku witnesses Sango possessed and under her possession she fights him forcing him to battle her, proving to be a much more formidable adversary than he expects. Miroku later comes to realize how much she truly means to him, eventually resulting in him proposing to her, which she tearfully accepts. | ||||

She recalls being surrounded by apparitions during her illness, allowing herself to be consumed for her rebirth, all to devote herself to Sesshomaru. | There has been gossips that various clergymen have been murdered. Miroku is told that his master Mushin is in terrible health. Inuyasha and his companions must uphold Mushin's troublesome tasks. This includes cleaning the temple, ventilating the bedding, cutting the grass, doing the laundry, and going to an expensive restaurant. Mushin's last wish is to taste a rare sake made from fabled sages found on a sacred mountain peak. Inuyasha and his companions are soon influenced by the poisonous mist of the mountain. Miroku returns to give Mushin the sake. Mushin later falls asleep, to which Miroku first believed he died. However, Mushin explains that it was all a misunderstanding. | ||||

While Kagome tries to deal with her unsettling feelings, Akitoki approaches Kaede in finding a solution in sealing an inherited halberd of great misfortune called the Naginata of Kenkon. Akitoki, along with Inuyasha and his companions, must travel to a shrine atop a mountain, which will dissipate the demonic aura from the halberd. Soon after resting at a tea house, strange occurrences begin to stir, including that of boulders descending and explosives dropping. He believes that by reuniting the two blades, he must kill humans to save humankind. Miroku uses his Wind Tunnel to vacuum the four ninja yōkai into the vortex. | With the complete Naginata of Kenkon in his possession, Hoshiyomi is virtually unstoppable. The spirit of Tsukiyomi returns and possesses Kagome to reason with her old lover. Hoshiyomi wanted to forge the Naginata of Kenkon in order to fight alongside Tsukiyomi, but he became possessed by the demonic influence of his overwhelming weapon. Tsukiyomi sealed Hoshiyomi within the shrine, and separated the halberd into two blades. However, Hoshiyomi killed Tsukiyomi as payment of betrayal. Akitoki confesses his unrequited romantic love for Kagome, defending against an attack by Hoshiyomi. | When Inuyasha and his companions come upon a wrecked village, they find out that the priest of the village was murdered by Kagura and The Infant. A legendary monk is known for sealing a swift demon horse known as Entei, and its demon master named Rengokuki, in the mountains. Kagura and The Infant approach the monk to attack him. However, the monk slices The Infant in half. Kagura brings both halves of The Infant to Kanna, who keeps one of the halves. Chaos ensues when the seal of Entei is broken. | The half of The Infant that was guarded by Kagura transforms into Hakudoshi, the eighth incarnation of Naraku. Inuyasha and his companions follow Entei and is led to Rengokuki, who has risen from his grave, but the two retreat when Inuyasha overpowers them. Rengokuki meets Kagura, who quickly declines his offer in marriage. Hakudoshi ends Entei's wild rampage when he arrives and slaughters Rengokuki, hence being chosen as its new master. Inuyasha and his companions encounter Hakudoshi, who is in search of the remaining shard of the Shikon Jewel located in the Netherworld, before he escapes. Meanwhile, Hakudoshi is seen with a handful of the heads of demons, glimpsing at the Netherworld. Kanta's headless father has entered into the village, but is scared away by the villagers, as he appears toward Sesshomaru. Kanta and Inuyasha's group find Kanta's father to reattach his head, but to no avail. Sesshomaru is soon convinced to use his Tenseiga to revive Kanta's father. The Netherworld is described as a world covered in clouds of white mist and strewn with heaps of giant bones. | ||||

After climbing a cliff, Inuyasha encounters Hakudoshi, who is aware of who Hosenki is. Inuyasha and his companions soon meet Hosenki, whose father has died of old age. Even though his father was the creator of the Black Pearl in Inuyasha's right eye, Hosenki is only the apprentice as such. | Inuyasha and his companions head toward the Mountain in the Realm of Fire, with the Saimyōshō leading them there. After entering a cave, they find Gozu and Mezu, the giant stone statues that guard the gate of the Netherworld. However, in order to pass through the gate, one must be deceased. Inuyasha seems vulnerable to the attacks from Gozu and Mezu. The only way to revert these two back to stone is to force the gate open by use of the Wind Scar. Kagura quickly attempts to pass through, but her demon army becomes petrified by the blinding light beyond the gate. Gozu and Mezu close the gate and revert to stone. Kagome tells the rest of the group that there is a presence of the shard of the Shikon Jewel beyond the gate. Kagura returns to Hakudoshi, furious at him. | It is seen that Princess Abi, who is a phoenix yōkai, has raided a town, in which her horde of phoenix demons drains the blood of the townspeople. Naraku presents himself to Princess Abi as an ally for her quest to heal her poisoned mother Queen Tekkei, wreaking havoc in order to collect the blood of humans to dilute the poison. Abi reluctantly accepts his help in the form of a trident, as it is claimed to be of use to her. A group of goblin demons have appeared in revenge of their father, yet Naraku easily defeats them and continues on his way. | This is the first part of a flashback. Kaede witnesses Kikyo and Tsubaki fight a swarm of demons. The grave of Midoriko in a limestone cave reacts to the Shikon Jewel inside a slain yet resurrected Mistress Centipede. Tsubaki places a curse on Kikyo for whenever she were to deeply fall in love. Kikyo is given the duty to guard and purify the Shikon Jewel inside the shrine of the village. After meeting Inuyasha, she realizes that he wants to have the Shikon Jewel to transform from a hanyō to a full-fledged, full-blooded yōkai. She gradually falls in love with him, feeling grateful for what he has unconditionally done, and he with her. | This is the second part of a memory flashback. A bandit named Onigumo is secretly harbored inside a cave, though devious intentions are sensed, as he desires the Shikon Jewel. Tsubaki initiates a cursed assault on Kikyo, who is able to reflect that assault. Onigumo later is consumed by a flock of demons, thus being transformed into Naraku. Kikyo is attacked by Naraku, and Inuyasha enters to rescue her. Inuyasha wants to be a human in order to be with Kikyo for the rest of his life. Naraku disguises himself as Inuyasha and then as Kikyo to turn them against each other, thereby tainting the Shikon Jewel. Naraku mortally wounds Kikyo. Hakudoshi and Kagura attack with a group of phoenix demons, buying time for Princess Abi to wreak havoc in the village of Saint Hijiri. A Sacred Arrow is fired at Hakudoshi and Kagura, urging the two to retreat. Inuyasha is left to spar against Entei, leading it inside a cave. | The unsettling possibility that Kikyo may be still alive arises, after having witnessed a sacred arrow being shot. She saves a group of villagers from a conflict with Princess Abi and her group of phoenix demons. Inuyasha and his companions must follow Saint Hijiri to confirm that she is really Kikyo. Kaede finds out that Kochou and Asuka, two female soul collectors in human form, visit Kikyo's grave to gather her remains. Inuyasha and his companions are to venture to the Forbidden Mountain, in hopes of finding Saint Hijiri. Unfortunately, Naraku's demons are an obstacle for them. Inuyasha sees an image of Kikyo before she disappears. Kagome crosses a barrier and finds a fatally wounded and unconscious Kikyo submerged in a waterfall. | ||||

Kagome witnesses a vision of the events leading to the death of Kikyo at the hands of Naraku, being tricked into sealing Inuyasha to the Sacred Tree. Though Kikyo has revived, she does not return her thanks for the decision Kagome made. The barrier dissipates allowing Inuyasha's group to find an irritated Kagome. He attempts to commit suicide but resolves to kill Naraku to make amends when Kagura saves him. Sango notices that The Infant is the tie between Naraku and the castle, and Kagura realizes that The Infant is the heart of Hakudoshi. Princess Abi sends forth her phoenix demons after Inuyasha and his companions. The deceased Hosenki shoots a multitude of adamant (diamond) spears at Inuyasha and his companions from the grave, where the last shard of the Shikon Jewel has been located. Hosenki prophesies that many shards of the Shikon Jewel have become tainted, whereupon he must not let anyone get a hold of the last shard of the Shikon Jewel, as that may also be tainted. Hosenki is corrupted by the last shard of the Shikon Jewel, drawing evil from the presence of tainted shards of the Shikon Jewel nearby. Every time Sesshomaru slices the body of Naraku, his poisonous miasma affects everyone. Inuyasha must choose between eradicating the miasma and slaying Hosenki. It is then that Hosenski realizes that Inuyasha is selfless, giving him the power of the Adamant Barrage to shatter Naraku's barrier. Hakudoshi orders Kohaku to unleash a plague of rat demons from a shrine box throughout many villages, hoping to draw out Kikyo. Inuyasha and his companions realize that Naraku is after Kikyo. Meanwhile, Kikyo performs a mayose ritual to grow a special branch into a magical tree that pierces the clouds, attracting the rat demons to climb it. Kohaku debates closing the shrine box to save lives, though that would show Naraku he is regaining his memories. Sango confronts him. | ||||

| While Inuyasha, Kagome and Shippo encounter Hakudoshi at the mayose tree, Miroku and Sango come face to face with Kohaku at the shrine box. Hakudoshi places great slug demons on the tree to weaken it and prevent the rat demons from being purified. He makes his escape, as he warns that bad will come to worse if Kikyo does not reveal herself. The rat demons surround Sango and Kohaku while returning to the shrine box. Kikyo shoots a Sacred Arrow into the shrine box, allowing Inuyasha to destroy it. The rat demons disappear. Kohaku is spirited away by Hakudoshi. Sango suffers mixed feelings for protecting Kohaku from the rat demons knowing he was responsible for massacring the castle inhabitants, even under Naraku's influence. | ||||

| Kagome returns to the present, still pondering Inuyasha and Kikyo's relationship. Kagome receives a used bicycle as a gift from a neighbor. Inuyasha lands and wrecks it, angering her greatly. Her three classmates are informed that Inuyasha must choose between her and Kikyo. To make matters worse, they are intent on meeting her mysterious boyfriend, something which Kagome anticipates will be a disaster. Inuyasha mangles the bicycle further whilst repairing it. He later tries to atone by assisting Kagome's grandfather in the shed, but soon gets in trouble when Kagome sees her bicycle in shambles. The classmates finally meet Inuyasha and it goes more smoothly than Kagome expected. Greatly relieved, she forgives him. | ||||

| Miroku comes across a village in which he remembers meeting a young girl named Shima, who was ill two years past. He had lecherously proposed to her then, swindling her parents to buy his expensive medicinal herbs. She is being forced into a marriage with a catfish demon, despite the fact she claims to be betrothed to Miroku. It is revealed that her father unknowingly promised Shima to marry the catfish demon, due to using lake water for her medicine and regularly praying to the shrine by the lake. The whole situation causes Sango to begin to doubt Miroku's feelings for her. Shima later insists she had lost her virginity to Miroku when he first met her and Sango finds she cannot easily forgive him. The catfish kidnaps Shima and then Sango as his intended mistress, but Miroku uses his Wind Tunnel to dry up the lake and defeat the yōkai. Shima reveals that she lied about being betrothed to (and sleeping with) Miroku, only to avoid marrying the catfish demon in the first place. Sango and Miroku reconcile. | ||||

Soon after Rin is brought inside a cave full of children, the group of monks comes to vanquish Ongukuki. Rin is faced with the choice of either living in a village among humans again or staying with Sesshomaru after he defeats the monks. She chooses Sesshomaru. | ||||

Meanwhile, Inuyasha and his companions purify a fox deity possessed by a parasite chrysalis demon in a town. Another parasite chrysalis demon possesses Shippo, which later causes him to attack his friends and the townspeople with his devious fox magic. Inuyasha manages to detach the parasite chrysalis demon from Shippo. The parasite chrysalis demons are destroyed, upon realization that Naraku was behind all of this. | ||||

Kohaku encounters Kikyo, who is taken by surprise by Naraku, hiding his demonic aura with the Fuyouheki. Inuyasha and his companions arrive just in time to drive off Naraku. The Fuyouheki was stolen because Naraku wanted to hide the demonic aura of his detached heart (The Infant), so Kikyo tells Inuyasha that she must find the heart of Naraku to end this trouble. | The demon mountain Gakusaijin has been struck and slain by shafts of light from an unknown source. A mysterious monk named Goryomaru with a demonic arm has his child ascetic warriors slay demons and recover their corpses. This leads the protagonists to investigate his temple in hopes of finding the Fuyouheki. They confront Goryomaru for killing Gakusaijin with his warriors. The children admit they believed all demons were evil. Kagura thinks The Infant is within the temple and commands the previously-slain demons to attack the temple. She is severely wounded by Goryomaru, falling into a nearby waterfall. Sesshomaru later saves her downstream. Though he knows she has betrayed him, Naraku does not destroy her heart in hopes of setting a trap for Inuyasha. | ||||

The demons were being slain and brought to the temple to amass a large amount of demonic aura, the better to mask the presence of The Infant. The protagonists are lured into the stomach of a large stone demon, trapping them there with the intent of collecting the last shard of the Shikon Jewel held by Kagome after they are dissolved by digestion. Kikyo encounters Kanna, who is holding The Infant. However, the soulless demon stops her attempt to kill The Infant. Inuyasha attaches the last shard of the Shikon Jewel to the Tetsusaiga, causing him to transform to demon form. Kagome embraces him, subduing him long enough to purify the shard. After breaking out with a final Adamant Barrage they vow to pursue Naraku until he is destroyed. | ||||

| Kagura is persuaded by Hakudoshi to release Goryomaru from imprisonment in exchange for her freedom from Naraku by collecting the remaining Shikon Jewel shards. After snatching a jewel shard from Kagome Higurashi, Hakudoshi later realizes that Kagura has betrayed him, due to her being moved by Kohaku's determination to destroy Naraku's heart. Inuyasha and the rest of his group arrive to confront Hakudoshi, while Kagura sends Kohaku off on one of her feathers. Hakudoshi gives the jewel shard to Goryomaru, who reveals himself to actually be Moryomaru, and sends him after Kohaku. Naraku, having discreetly watched his incarnations' plot against him unfold, disables Hakudoshi's barrier and withdraws the Saimyōshō, somehow allowing Miroku to suck Hakudoshi up into his Wind Tunnel. Knowing that Naraku could crush her heart at any given time, Kagura must now flee for her life, after having revealed that The Infant, which contains Naraku's own heart, resides inside Moryomaru. When Sango finds Kohaku before the others, she learns that he has regained his memory that they were siblings. Since the cat's out of the bag about him housing The Infant, Moryomaru flees to grow stronger. Kohaku has a tearful reunion with Sango. Elsewhere, Kikyo is slowly weakening, to the point of her spiritual shield not being able to keep novice monks away. | |||

| Kikyo continues to weaken due to Naraku's miasma eating away at her from within, and summons the soul of the priestess Midoriko to restore her powers. She explains to Inuyasha that in order to destroy Naraku, the Shikon Jewel must be completed and purified with Naraku the moment he absorbs it. Kohaku trails her and tells Inuyasha to tell the others. Meanwhile, Koga completes a series of trials to obtain the Goraishi, a treasure of his clan. He succeeds and gains the clawed weapon and protection of the spirits of his ancestors that will keep Midoriko's will from freezing his legs in place only one time. Kagura encounters Naraku, who returns her heart back to her, but he immediately impales her on his tendrils, injecting her with miasma and leaving her on the brink of death. After managing to escape on a feather, she lands in a meadow filled with flowers, where she listens to her newly-returned heart beating inside her chest. Sesshomaru battles Moryomaru, who has acquired the armor of a turtle demon named Meioju after devouring it. Smelling Kagura's blood, Sesshomaru quickly finishes his battle, shattering his sword Tokijin in the process. He finds her in the meadow just as she begins to die, and she is happy to see him one last time. Her body dissolves into dust and her feather hairpin floats away into the wind, signifying that she is now free. | |||

| Totosai approaches Sesshomaru to tell him that the Tenseiga can now be reforged into an offensive weapon, since Sesshomaru has now experienced rage and sorrow for someone other than himself. In the present, Kagome's grandfather tells her that the Shikon Jewel can only be erased from the world if the one who had obtained it makes the one correct wish. However, their conversation deviates from her worries about passing her academic studies. Elsewhere, Inuyasha and the others find an inn, where fox demons play tricks on others to try to advance in demon rank. As some of the fox demons disguise themselves as beautiful women, Miroku has no problems with being tricked, much to Sango's discontent. After accidentally entering the test, Shippo plays several tricks on Inuyasha, clobbering him each time. Shippo retreats into the forest where he meets a girl named Mujina, determined to avenge her father by using her sword to absorb demonic energy. After Mujina absorbs demonic energy from Inuyasha's Tessaiga a few times, Inuyasha blocks the released attack and uncovers Mujina to be a fat, badger demon (mujina) in disguise before sending him into the sky. Meanwhile, Sesshomaru learns the Meido Zangetsuha technique, which cuts a small path to the Underworld and sends one's opponent there directly. Having gained a powerful offensive technique to replace Tokijin, Sesshomaru decides that he will be the one to choose whether or not Kagura died in vain. | |||

| Inuyasha's group rescues a swordsmith named Toshu from the demon Ryujin, who is after Toshu's Dakki, a sword designed to absorb demonic energy. After Ryujin is injured by Inuyasha, Toshu stabs him with this sword, taking away his demonic energy to complete the blade. However, Toshu then attempts to steal Tessaiga's demonic energy, though this slowly begins to turn Toshu into a demon. The demonic energy proves to be too powerful for Dakki, as it transfers its damage of absorption into Toshu, thereby killing him. After Dakki breaks and releases its power, Tessaiga gains Dakki's ability to absorb demonic energy. Meanwhile, Naraku's latest incarnation, Byakuya, has ordered a young wolf demon to retrieve Koga's shards in exchange for his younger brother, Shinta. The youth brings Koga to Byakuya, who proceeds to send Shinta away with a moth demon. Moryomaru catches it and almost absorbs Shinta. However, while Shinta is rescued, Moryomaru gets the older brother's shard. Inuyasha's arrival with his new dragon-scaled Tessaiga reluctantly allows Moryomaru to absorb the Adamant Spears, but the overwhelming power forces Moryomaru to flee. However, Tessaiga begins to backfire, leaving Inuyasha wounded and bewildered. Byakuya reports back to Naraku, who ponders whether Tessaiga would defeat its opponent or destroy its owner. | |||

| Kohaku joins Kikyo, willing to give up his shard if it means killing Naraku, while Koga leaves Ginta and Hakkaku behind because of the increasing danger. Meanwhile, Moryomaru devours the twin demons Kinka and Ginka, obtaining their fire and lightning abilities to strengthen his armor. Sesshomaru attempts to use the Meido Zangetsuha to send some of Moryomaru to the Underworld, but Byakuya interferes on Naraku's orders. Also, Totosai sends Inuyasha and his group to see the demon hermit Yorei-Taisei in mastering his new sword. Upon arriving at his house, they realize that Yorei-Taisei is missing his internal organs, and all the villagers have been turned into the form of demons by an organ thief, who is a real demon blended among the villagers. Yorei-Taisei wraps Tessaiga in chains to disallow Inuyasha from drawing it until facing the organ thief. Inuyasha comes across a female serpent demon, and all but Kagome are swept away when trying to help Inuyasha defeat her. When Inuyasha returns to Yorei-Taisei's home with Kagome, he faces a male ox demon. Inuyasha uses his nose to locate Yorei-Taisei's demonic energy manifested around the demon in the form of vortexes. He is able to draw Tessaiga and cut the right vortex, clearing the hermit's test, but there is one final technique that Inuyasha has yet to discover. | |||

| Naraku, reviving and absorbing a demonic tree named Yomeiju, flees from Inuyasha and his friends. Kikyo crosses paths with Koga for the first time, after Moryomaru bursts from a mountain without catching sight of them. Inuyasha's gang witness Moryomaru and Naraku battle each other, though they are evenly matched. Moryomaru consumes Naraku to gain his jewel shards and later captures Koga. However, this was a ruse to allow Naraku to get through his armor and destroy him from the inside, using the demon tree's tendrils penetrate The Infant's barrier and merge with him. After Koga frees himself Miroku to use his Wind Tunnel towards Naraku, yet refuses to close it despite his friends' pleas, until the miasma causes him to bleed out of his face, allowing Naruka to retreat. Severely poisoned, Miroku is near death, and Kikyo states that even her great abilities of purification cannot entirely heal him. | |||

| Kikyo is able to partially heal Miroku by pouring some of her life force into him, though this causes her wound to reopen again. Naraku is forced to take Onigumo, his human heart, back in, gaining the abilities to spin spiderwebs. He manages to capture Kikyo, canceling out her purification powers and leaving her to be infected with his evil will. Inuyasha and Kagome end up entangled in the spiderwebs when trying to help Kikyo. Kagome sees a vision of the tragic parting between Inuyasha and Kikyo which took place fifty years prior. Kagome tries to use Kikyo's longbow to heal her, but the bowstring snaps due to the resulting defilement of the spiderwebs. Kikyo instructs Kagome to go to the Mausoleum of Mount Azusa to obtain a special longbow in order to save her life. Meanwhile, Byakuya finds Kohaku and poisons him with snakes, but leaves when Sesshormaru's group shows up to save Kohaku. Once reaching the mausoleum at the top of the sacred mountain, the spirit guardian, in the form of Kikyo, gives Kagome the longbow, but Kagome is tested when she tries to go back down, ending up dangled from a cliff. Kikyo appears to her and questions her desire to save Kikyo's life, but Kagome learns it was just an image of Kikyo created from her own insecurities. Kagome passes the test and obtains the sacred longbow of Mount Azusa, then falls into the abyss below the cliff. Naraku, realizing Kagome is now freed from the spiderwebs, plans to personally kill Kikyo in order to prevent her from being purified. | |||

| After Inuyasha catches Kagome from the sky, Naraku recaptures the rest of the group, intending to acquire Koga's shards, but unable to defile their purity. While Inuyasha battles Naraku, Kikyo stops Kagome from using the sacred longbow to save her. Naraku drops Kikyo and his body opens up, which reveals the Shikon Jewel inside, but it disappears as Koga charges towards it, trapping him inside. Miroku and Inuyasha are able to save Koga, but his jewel shards are lost in the process. With the Shikon Jewel now in Kikyo, she urges Kagome to shoot her. It purifies the Shikon Jewel, and Kikyo's soul collectors guide the arrow at Naraku to try purifying him along with the Shikon Jewel. However, his demonic energy overwhelms Kikyo and taints the Shikon Jewel, rendering her powerless and on the verge of death. Naraku is forced to retreat, due to being wounded from the attack. As the others mourn for her death, Inuyasha shares one last kiss with Kikyo before she dies peacefully in his arms. Her soul collectors carry her spirit into the stars to rest in peace. | |||

| Without his jewel shards, Koga leaves Inuyasha's group, taking Ginta and Hakkaku with him. Meanwhile, Sesshomaru visits his mother to strengthen the power of Meido Zangetsuha, so she summons a hellhound from her Meido Stone for her son to battle, which takes Kohaku and Rin into the void of the Underworld. Sesshomaru follows them into the void and defeats the hellhound to rescue them, but Kohaku later notices that Rin stops breathing. The darkness envelopes Rin, and Sesshomaru confronts the Guardian of the Underworld to rescue her. However, Sesshomaru sadly realizes that he cannot resurrect Rin, having already done so in the past. After purifying the corpses of the Underworld, Sesshormaru uses Meido Zangetsuha, this time a much wider pathway, back to the physical world. After Sesshomaru is scolded for thinking he could cheat death simply because he carries Tenseiga, his mother revives Rin using her Meido Stone. Before Sesshomaru's group departs, Sesshomaru's mother warns Kohaku that even though his life has been unnaturally prolonged by his jewel shard, Tenseiga is still unable to save him from death. | |||

| Kanna goes to the meadow where Kagura died, finding her fan and tossing it into a glistening pond, as she bids her sister farewell. Elsewhere, Inuyasha and his group arrive in flower-filled village, where the villagers are disturbingly happy. They discover a demon called the Flower Prince, who uses his magic to drain all sorrow and pain from the hearts of others, allowing them peace before making them part of the soil. Inuyasha, still carrying grief over Kikyo's second death, is easily snared in an illusion, where Kikyo offers to go to the afterlife with him. Kagome manages to destroy the demon, removing all the flowers in the village. Meanwhile, Byakuya tells Kanna to lure Inuyasha and his companions in and unleash her mirror. When the group arrives at the pond, a mirror demon emerges from the mirror and steals all of Tessaiga's powers, forcing Inuyasha and his friends to flee. | |||

| Inuyasha's party hides in a cave with a barrier created by Miroku, but the mirror demon finds them and breaks through it. Tessaiga draws out the power of Inuyasha's full-demon state to help him fight. Kanna heals the mirror demon's injuries by transferring them to herself. Inuyasha switches his target to the replica Tessaiga and successfully breaks it, restoring the power to his own sword and his body to his normal half-demon state. Although having taken much damage from the mirror demon and believing she is now free, Naraku orders her to walk towards the group and detonate herself. However, she stands still, disobeying the orders. Naraku crushes Kanna's heart, causing Kanna to shatter into several pieces of glass. One of the shards pierces Kagome's eye, and she hears Kanna saying that the light will destroy Naraku. Once the dust settles, Kagome explains to the rest that Kanna never wanted to die, being the reason why she wanted Kagome to hear her last words. | |||

| Facing off against a bone-collecting demon, Miroku is poisoned when forced to use his Wind Tunnel, so Sango coats Hiraikotsu in a corrosive poison and uses it to destroy the demon, to which Inuyasha charges in to kill the demon's master. Myoga suggests to have Hiraikotsu repaired by the Master of Potions, seen as a drunken sage. The Master of Potions dissolves Hiraikotsu into a jug of alcohol. Sango jumps into another jug to pacify the demons that were used to create Hiraikotsu. Meanwhile, the Master of Potions talks in secret with Miroku, offering him a medicinal yet poisonous drink that will null any pain from intake of miasma or poison, though it will not actually prevent it from spreading, as it is the price to pay to continue protecting Sango. The demons of Hiraikotsu, angry with Sango but eventually accepting the fact that she would sacrifice herself if it means saving Miroku, allow to fully restore her weapon. However, the Master of Potions explains that Hiraikotsu has changed in some way due to his herbs and poisons. | |||

| Sesshomaru is approached by the demon Shishinki, who attacks him using a complete Meido Zangetsuha, claiming that Sesshomaru's father stole the technique from him. Shishinki even absorbs Sesshomaru's attempt at doing Meido Zangetsuha. He tauntingly says that Sesshomaru must have been shunned by his father since Tessaiga should have belong to Sesshomaru instead of Inuyasha, who butts in the battle until Sesshormaru tells him not to interfere. As the battle continues, Myoga explains to Sesshomaru that his father entrusted him with Tenseiga, already knowing he would be able to fully master the Meido Zangetsuha. Although Shishinki, unleashing multiple attacks of Meido Zangetsuha, doubts this would happen, Sesshomaru proves him wrong by launching a massive complete Meido Zangetsuha, successfully swallowing him in. Inuyasha tries to convince Sesshomaru that Tenseiga is a proper keepsake, but Sesshomaru, before departing with his group, states that they are destined to fight one another for the rest of their lives. | |||

| Byakuya arrives to see the aftermath of the battle between Sesshomaru and Shishinki. Meanwhile, Totosai confirms that Sesshomaru's father gave him Tenseiga so Meido Zangetsuha could be perfected, then have Tessaiga reabsorb it. Elsewhere, Naraku tries to take Kohaku's jewel shard, only to find that it is still being protected and purified by Kikyo's spiritual powers. Kohaku fights Naraku alone in order to protect Jaken and Rin. Inuyasha's group go past Byakuya to get to Naraku, who tries to taunt Sango by claiming Kohaku runs from her to forget his past, but yet she states would still fight for him when he needs her. She attacks with Hiraikotsu and to her surprise, it now has its own demonic energy and it is able to injure Naraku. Although Inuyasha, Kagome and Miroku each try to attack him, the severely wounded Naraku manages to flee. Afterward, Kohaku tells them that because his jewel shard is still pure, they may still be able to use it in the final battle with Naraku. | |||

| Using the fragment of Kanna's mirror given to him by Byakuya, Sesshomaru is able to make Tenseiga replicate Tessaiga's powers and abilities and challenges Inuyasha to a battle to test his worthiness to wield their father's fang of destruction. Every time the swords cross, Tessaiga regains some of its powers and abilities back. Sesshomaru uses Meido Zangetsuha on Inuyasha and throws Tenseiga inside, but Inuyasha cut through his demonic energy to save himself. Naraku tries to control Tenseiga through Kanna's mirror, but Sesshomaru jumps inside Meido Zangetsuha and forces Inuyasha to break Tenseiga. Tessaiga's blade becomes black, Inuyasha uses Meido Zangetsuha to exit the Underworld and the broken Tenseiga comes back anew. Now freed from his obsession with Tessaiga, Sesshomaru is one step away from obtaining a much more powerful weapon of his own that is not inherited from his father. | |||

| Inuyasha returns to Kaede's village to tell her of Kikyo's death. Kaede states that Kagome's innate spiritual power was probably sealed by Magatsuhi, the evil will of the Shikon Jewel who did so out of fear. Meanwhile, as a countermeasure against Kikyo's spiritual powers, Naraku provides some of his flesh to give Magatsuhi a physical form, ordering him to retrieve Kohaku's jewel shard. Sesshomaru struggles to defend the boy without a weapon or a left arm. Inuyasha's group arrives to find Sesshomaru's right arm badly wounded and Kohaku's shard being defiled. After Magatsuhi renders Kagome unconscious, Sesshomaru heals his wounds and assumes his true form to attack, but to no effect. The brothers struggle to battle Magatsuhi, while protecting their respective groups. Sesshomaru ends up speared and trapped in a ball of appendages, yet is able to burst through. When Totosai then appears, Sesshomaru's left arm is restored and he is wielding a new sword named Bakusaiga, able to rot whatever he cuts, forcing Magatsuhi to flee after destroying the evil spirit's vessel. Soon after, Kagome finally awakens with a puzzled expression on her face. | |||

| Inuyasha and Sesshomaru's groups go to Kaede's village, where Kohaku remains unconscious due to the defilement of his jewel shard, but not even Kagome can purify it, seemingly due to Magatsuhi's mental attack against her. After Totosai makes a scabbard for Bakusaiga, Sesshomaru leaves Jaken and Rin with Kohaku to hunt down Magatsuhi. Kagome decides to return home to take her high school entrance exams, promising to return when they are done. However, Kagome is at a loss since her family is away on a trip, the school is closed and her friends are unavailable. Inuyasha visits her, advising her to stay at home until Naraku is defeated, and he believes her spiritual powers and abilities were sealed by Kikyo's final wish not to fight anymore. Kagome wants to keep her promise to Kikyo instead and to make the one correct wish that will make the sacred Shikon Jewel disappear from world of the living forever. Inuyasha vows to protect Kagome with his life, and they almost kiss passionately, but are interrupted by the sudden return of her family. Ten days later, Kagome goes on her way by train to take her entrance exams, but is persistently followed by Inuyasha. Kagome's bag gets caught in the train when exiting, but Inuyasha carries her after the train to retrieve her bag. | Sesshomaru finds Magatsuhi and attacks him with Tenseiga, but it was only an illusion created by Byakuya. The real Magatsuhi attacks Kaede's village and gains control of Kohaku's body. Before escaping, despite Miroku's attempt to suck the evil spirit into his Wind Tunnel at a fatal cost, Magatsuhi badly injures Miroku and Sango while knocking Rin out. Inuyasha and Kagome return and give chase, while Sesshomaru discovers the deception and uses Bakusaiga to take out the thousand demons Byakuya summons to keep him from reaching Magatsuhi's location. Back at the village, Sango kisses the sleeping Miroku and prays for him to survive, before chasing after Kohaku. When Inuyasha, Kagome and Sango find him, Magatsuhi reveals that Kohaku is reliving the events of slaughtering his father and comrades. But responding to his sister's appeal with the aid of what little of Kikyo's pure light remains in his jewel shard, Kohaku manages to break Magatsuhi's control momentarily as he jumps into a canyon to force the evil spirit to leave him. | |||

| Kohaku successfully drives Magatsuhi out of his body, just as Sesshomaru arrives, using Bakusaiga by destroying Naraku's appendages and then using Tenseiga by cutting Magatsuhi in half, yet still able to escape. When Sesshomaru heads back to the village, Naraku manages to capture Kagome and demands Inuyasha's group gives him Kohaku's jewel shard in exchange for her. Discreetly spotting a sacred arrow on the ground before offering himself to Naraku, Kohaku stabs him in the right shoulder, shattering the turtle shelled armor previously absorb by Moryomaru, prompting Naraku to retreat. Meanwhile, as the Wind Tunnel is close to consuming Miroku, a fragment of Magatsuhi possesses Rin's body to fly off with a demon. After Kokaru reunites with the others, a piece of Naraku's flesh pierces Kohaku's neck and takes the jewel shard, leaving his empty body behind. Luckily, Kohaku is brought back to life by Kikyo's light after her spirit hears Sango crying for him. With the Shikon Jewel now complete in Naraku's hand, the final battle between light and darkness begins. | |||

| Kagome happily learns that she has been put on the waiting list for high school, finally graduating from middle school with her friends. Hojo wishes to give Kagome his second button, a tradition in Japan which means that the boy likes the girl, but she leaves before he can. Meanwhile, Naraku has absorbed the power of the Shikon Jewel and a dark cloud spreads over the land. Inuyasha's group leaves to defeat Naraku, leaving Shippo behind in the care of Kaede. As they find Naraku and Byakuya in a cloud of miasma, they see Sesshomaru enter Naraku's body in search of Rin. As Inuyasha's group enters, Miroku pauses to propose to Sango. They soon realize that though they are breathing in the miasma, it is not harming them because the Shikon Jewel wants to capture their souls first. Inuyasha and Kagome search for the defiled jewel, after Miroku and Sango are captured. As Inuyasha gets closer to the Shikon Jewel, he turns into a full-blooded demon and attacks Kagome. Naraku offers Kagome a miasma-coated arrow to save herself with, but she refuses. Naraku says Inuyasha will kill her, just as he had killed Kikyo. Inuyasha attacks again, throwing her off a cliff. | |||

| Miroku and Sango are shown an illusion of Miroku's father being sucked in by his own Wind Tunnel. Inuyasha momentarily regains his humanity when he hears Kagome's voice, but diverts back to his demon form when his heart is devoured by the Shikon Jewel’s poison. After Miroku uses his Wind Tunnel to save Sango from oncoming demons, Miroku recommends that he should part ways with Sango. Rin, finally gaining her consciousness, is chased by Magatsuhi. She encounters Inuyasha, who ends up being possessed by Magatsuhi after a failed attempt of attack. When Sesshomaru and Kagome arrive, the former takes on the possessed Inuyasha, while the latter attempts to retrieve Tessaiga, which Magatsuhi tossed aside due to its connection to Inuyasha's senses. As Kagome pulls the sword, she falls over the cliff, but is able to hold onto the side. Inuyasha regains control of his body after hearing Kagome's voice and when Tessaiga is returned to him. Magatsuhi tries to possess Kagome, but Inuyasha uses Tessaiga to draw out the demonic energy and Sesshomaru uses Tenseiga to dispel the evil spirit once and for all. | |||

| After Magatsuhi's defeat, Kagome's innate spiritual powers and abilities are released to their fullest extent with Shikon Jewel having a spark of pure light within it. Naraku tries to eradicate the pure light by sending out illusions, one to trick Miroku to using his Wind Tunnel for one last time, and another to make Sango kill Rin to save Miroku from the Wind Tunnel. Inuyasha makes it in time to prevent Miroku from opening the Wind Tunnel. Kagome's sacred arrow hits Naraku, destroying the illusions and freeing Rin with the Hiraikotsu. Though Rin is freed and nearly falls to her death, Kohaku comes to save her before hitting the ground just in time. Inuyasha, Kagome and Miroku see Naraku's true body as his miasma starts to fill the air. As Inuyasha sends a Meido Zangetsuha traveling past Naraku, Shippo later sees Byakuya intercepting it with a strange blade to rob some of this dark orb's energy. Sango protects an awakened Rin from the miasma by giving the girl her protective mask. | |||

| Naraku releases more miasma, while Inuyasha uses Tessaiga's barrier to protect himself, Kagome and Miroku. Sango arrives riding Kirara and throws her Hirakotsu, but it absorbs too much of the miasma and Sango, poisoned, falls through a hole that Naraku opens in his flesh. Miroku follows and she decides to die with him there. Elsewhere, Sesshomaru, having recovered Rin, strikes Naraku's outer body with Bakusaiga; the effects of the blade's destruction begin to spread rapidly. When Kagome questions Naraku about whether his real wish has come true, he becomes enraged. As he absorbs the Shikon Jewel, he begins transforming and spreading spiderwebs around the area. Inuyasha unleashes Meido Zangestuha, which takes on the form of slashing blades due to the different nature of his sword. Miroku and Sango fall again, but are joined by Shippo. Byakuya slashes Kagome across the back with his blade, but strangely it leaves no wound. Inuyasha quickly attacks and kills Byakuya, who states that he has fulfilled his purpose. Together, Miroku, Sango, Shippo and Kirara, along with Sesshomaru's group, join Inuyasha and Kagome in the final battle against Naraku. | |||

| Naraku transforms after finally feeding his soul to the Shikon Jewel, vastly spreading miasma in the area. As the group exits the large mass of misama, they find themselves over the Bone Eater's Well near Kaede's village. After Naraku's body is destroyed forever by Inuyasha's Meido Zangetsuha and Sesshomaru's Bakusaiga, Kagome pierces the Shikon Jewel with an unusually powerful sacred arrow, dealing his soul a fatal blow. It is learned that Naraku's true wish was Kikyo's heart, a wish that the Shikon Jewel never granted. Miroku's Wind Tunnel vanishes after Naraku's soul has been purified from the material world, but a Meido suddenly opens behind Kagome (created due to Byakuya striking her earlier) and pulls her in along with the well. Kagome finds herself in front of her high school, resuming her normal life with her friends and family, but without any memories of Inuyasha or the others. However, she is bothered by a nagging sense that something is wrong. When she touches the Sacred Tree, her memories return and the spell is broken, but she is then surrounded by darkness. The voice of the Shikon Jewel tells her that she will forever remain there, lest she makes a selfish wish to return to her own time. Meanwhile, Inuyasha uses Meido Zangestuha to jump into the darkness after Kagome. As Inuyasha battles through the demons, he yells to Kagome not to make any wishes yet, since doing so would bound her inside the Shikon Jewel, battling demons for an eternity. | |||

| Inuyasha's voice is ultimately able to reach Kagome, who remembers her grandfather telling her that the one and only correct wish will cause the Shikon Jewel to be banished from the world forever. Inuyasha battles his way to her and after they share a loving kiss, she makes the one and only correct wish, shattering the Shikon Jewel from existence. Three years later, eighteen-year-old Kagome, who is now graduating high school, recalls how Inuyasha and her returned to the present. The well then transported Inuyasha back to his time and stopped working since then. In the present day, Kagome returns to the well and realizes her own feelings were what was blocking the well. When she wishes to see him again, the well reactivates and she bids farewell to her mother and enters the well. Inuyasha quickly catches her scent, meets her, takes her by the hand, and embraces her. Kagome's family and friends continue to live as they always have. Kagome's brother Sota Higurashi tells his friends that his sister got married right after high school and moved away; Kagome's friends are in college; and Hojo is dating an underclasswoman. Shippo is training to become a strong fox demon; Sango and Miroku live with their three kids in Kaede's village; Kohaku is off to train to become a strong demon slayer; Myoga continues to live with Totosai; Koga gets married to the wolf demon girl Ayame; and Rin lives with Kaede in the village where Sesshoumaru and Jaken are shown paying her visits. Inuyasha said that this was practice for returning her to a human village or whatever she chooses. Kagome is contently adapting to her new life in the feudal world as Inuyasha's wife. | |||
