CKY is an American heavy metal band from West Chester, Pennsylvania. The group was originally formed in 1998 by vocalist and guitarist Deron Miller, guitarist Chad I Ginsburg and drummer Jess Margera.[1] Miller and Margera were recording under the name Oil (as well as performing with live bassist Ryan Bruni) when they met Ginsburg, who was then working as an engineer; he was later added as a guitarist, marking the official formation of CKY.[2] The trio released its debut album Volume 1 in 1999.[1] Bruni was fired from the band in 2000, and was later replaced by Vernon Zaborowski.[3] After releasing and touring in promotion of 2002's Infiltrate•Destroy•Rebuild, Zaborowski was also fired in June 2004.[4] Shortly after the release of An Answer Can Be Found in June 2005, former All That Remains bassist Matt Deis was announced as his replacement.[5]

Deis performed on 2009's Carver City, released in 2009, before leaving the group in May 2010.[6] He was later replaced by Matt "Matty J" Janaitis, while Rob "Murry" Valeno joined as a touring member on keyboards.[7] Compilation album B-Sides & Rarities was released in 2011,[8] but by the end of the year frontman Miller had left the band.[9] CKY returned for a number of shows in early 2012 with Year Long Disaster frontman Daniel Davies in place of Miller.[10] Miller and Ginsburg attempted a reconciliation in 2014,[11][12] before Davies and Deis returned for a live show in 2015.[13][14] Ginsburg took over the role of lead vocalist in 2016, with Margera and Deis completing the three-piece lineup of the band.[15][16]
