Linowo [liˈnɔvɔ] (German: Leinau)[1] is a village in the administrative district of Gmina Purda, within Olsztyn County, Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship, in northern Poland.[2] It lies approximately 9 kilometres (6 mi) west of Purda and 8 km (5 mi) south-east of the regional capital Olsztyn.

The area was part of the Kingdom of Poland from 1466 until 1772; from 1772-1945 it was in the Kingdom of Prussia and Germany (East Prussia). After World War II the region was placed under Polish administration by the Potsdam Agreement under territorial changes demanded by the Soviet Union. Most Germans fled or were expelled and replaced with Poles expelled from the Polish areas annexed by the Soviet Union or forced to settle in the area through Operation Vistula in 1947.
