Liam James McIntyre (born 8 February 1982) is an Australian actor best known for playing the lead role in the Starz television series Spartacus: Vengeance[1] and Spartacus: War of the Damned. He has also appeared The Legend of Hercules, The Flash, and Gears of War 4, amongst other roles. He currently stars as Dr. Eli Nader on Pulse.

Career

McIntyre at the 2016 San Diego Comic-Con International.

McIntyre began his career acting mainly in short films, before performing guest roles in Australia's popular television series Rush and Neighbours. McIntyre made his US television debut guest starring in an episode of the award nominated HBO mini-series The Pacific. After Andy Whitfield's 2010 diagnosis of Non-Hodgkins lymphoma (and later death in 2011), McIntyre replaced him in the title role of Spartacus for the subsequent seasons.[2][3][4] McIntyre made his feature film debut appearing alongside Kellan Lutz in The Legend of Hercules, in the role of Sotiris.[5] On 4 May 2014, McIntyre starred in the Channel 7 thriller The Killing Field.[6][7] Throughout 2015–16, McIntyre completed The Dream Children and Albion: The Enchanted Stallion, two small independent films, as Luke Delaney and Erémon. In 2015, he also starred in Unveiled, an unsold pilot, and portrayed the recurring villain, Weather Wizard in The Flash.

In 2016, McIntyre played the lead character JD Fenix in the popular video game, Gears of War 4.[8] In January 2017, McIntyre appeared in Apple of My Eye, in the supporting role of Jason Andrews. He had an uncredited cameo in an episode of Con Man. McIntyre was cast in Security, an action-thriller film starring Antonio Banderas & Ben Kingsley. He filmed a pilot for SyFy, titled The Haunted in January 2017. The pilot did not receive a full series order. McIntyre is currently starring in the Australian medical-drama, Pulse on ABC.[9]

Personal life

McIntyre was born in Adelaide, Australia. In 2010, he began dating Australian singer and actress Erin Hasan, the star of the original Melbourne and Sydney productions of musical Wicked as the Glinda standby. They were engaged in December 2012, and married on 5 January 2014.[10][11] On 6 January 2017, McIntyre was located in the Fort Lauderdale airport when a mass-shooting occurred. McIntyre, himself, was supposed to be in Terminal 2 around the same time the gunman opened fire, at about 1:00 pm, but decided to leave the terminal to wish his wife farewell. He live-tweeted the incident from his location at the airport.[12]
