Lara Veronin (born May 2, 1988), more frequently known as Lara Liang (traditional Chinese: 梁心頤; simplified Chinese: 梁心颐; pinyin: Liáng Xīnyí), is a Russian-Taiwanese-American musician. She is the youngest of 3 sisters, and moved frequently during her childhood between Taiwan and California. She graduated from Taipei American School in 2006.

Career

Veronin was the lead female vocalist in the Taiwanese band Nan Quan Mama (simplified Chinese: 南拳妈妈; traditional Chinese: 南拳媽媽; pinyin: nán quán māma) from 2005 to 2010.[1] With the band, she released three albums ("Combo No. 2", "Color Palette", "Treasure Map") and a best-of compilation album ("Difficult Kids"). The single "Rainy Day" from "Difficult Kids" topped the charts and soon became an all-time KTV favorite.

Veronin is known for appearing as a featured vocalist in the songs "Coral Sea", "Snake Dance", and "A Larger Cello" with Jay Chou.[2] She also performed another duet with Jay Chou in the song Snake Dance which appeared on his album Capricorn. She has also appeared in Chou's music videos for "Piano Sorrow" and "Big Ben" and is a frequent guest performer in his world tours.

In December 2010, Veronin released her bilingual EP and first solo album titled Hello 梁心頤.[3] In October 2012, she released her concept album, titled "自由靈魂" (Free Spirit). Over the years, Veronin has progressed from penning a few select tracks on albums to taking over the majority of musical and creative direction, composing and producing as well as participating in styling and marketing aspects.

In May 2013, Veronin and sister Esther Veronin founded MeimeiWawa Multimedia, a company devoted to the arts.[4] The sisters are active in the film industry as well as in the music industry, and have embarked on an international film project called "Taipei As We Know It (TAWKI)". "TAWKI" will be an English-based web-drama set in Taipei, touching on issues of social pressure, substance abuse, and therapy, while also sharing the exotic landscape and culture of the sisters' hometown, Taipei.[5] As of 2013, Veronin has starred in various self-produced films including "She Wore Red" which won the award for Best Cinematography in the Tainan 39-Hour Short Film Contestival.[6]

In late December 2014, she released her latest single "Dida" under her own label MeimeiWawa Multimedia.[7] The accompanying music video was filmed in Taipei and directed by her older sister Esther Veronin. The video touched upon LGBT themes and was selected as the theme song to the "Fluid Sexuality International Film Festival" in 2015. Both Veronin and her sister Esther have publicly expressed support for the LGBT community.[8] Meimeiwawa Multimedia is both a lifestyle and a production company, hosting a variety of different shows including the popular faux-reality web series 'Meiwa Diaries'[9] and a travel show 'Livin' Vivacious' hosted by Lara introducing viewers to popular food and cultural spots across Taiwan and occasionally abroad.

On the 12th of December 2016, Veronin released her long-awaited single 'Where Do We Go' [10] on which she co-wrote the melody with Jason Lu and wrote the lyrics herself. The single has received praise from industry professionals such as prolific mixing engineer Dave Yang and back-up vocalist teacher Ma Yu-Fen, prior to its release. Veronin has also expressed interest in further promoting her image as a singer-songwriter with the release of this single.

Veronin has appeared in lead roles for the 2006 drama series Engagement for Love (simplified Chinese: 爱情经纪约; traditional Chinese: 愛情經紀約; pinyin: àiqíng jīngjì yuē) with Alex To and Ambrose Hsu and the 2012 drama series Alice in Wonder City, starring as the assistant to violin prodigy He Ting Yu (played by Aaron Yan). She has also starred in the micro-films "The Two Faces of Love", "Secretly Occupying You", and "Scratch & Win".[11][12] Veronin's music is present in all of the film projects she participates in.

In 2013, Veronin left JVR Music, and opened her own multimedia company with her sisters.

Personal life

Besides voice-acting for Disney, Veronin has dabbled in hosting for television and radio, as well as contributed articles to magazines. She has stated that one of her first passions was and is writing, and she hopes to pursue this in various ways in the future.

On 29 May 2015, Veronin's mother died after collapsing from a cardiac stress test due to chest complaints.[13]
