Lakeland PBS is a community-licensed, non-profit public media organization and PBS member based in Bemidji, Minnesota.[1] The organization operates two television stations: KAWE in Bemidji, broadcasting on channel 9, and KAWB, a satellite station in Brainerd, Minnesota broadcasting on channel 28 but remapping to channel 22, the station's former analog channel. Lakeland PBS first took to the air on June 1, 1980 and was formerly known as Lakeland Public Television; it re-branded on January 8, 2018 to better align its brand with PBS.
Lakeland PBS is the only full-power television broadcasting operation based in north central Minnesota, an area that is served mainly by translators of the Minneapolis–Saint Paul television stations. It also airs the only local newscast in north central Minnesota.
Lakeland PBS utilizes KAWB's channel 22 position on DirecTV and Dish Network's Twin Cities local tier to avert confusion with KMSP-TV, channel 9 in Minneapolis.
