Lagoinha Baptist Church (Igreja Batista da Lagoinha) is a Christian baptist pentecostal megachurch located in Belo Horizonte, Minas Gerais in Brazil. Márcio Valadão is the current senior pastor of the church and has about 82,000 members. The main Temple but holds about 8,000 seats. The church has many services during a Sunday. Additionally specific services during the week, e.g. for families, for businesses, a prophetic services, and some services for teenagers and young adults. It is one of the best-known evangelical churches in Brazil. The church became known through the ministry of praise Diante do Trono, which is one of the ministries of the church.[1] Some of the main services are broadcoasted live via the Internet and also via their own TV and radio station Rede Super.[2] It is affiliated with the Convenção Batista Nacional.

History

Lagoinha Church was founded by José Rego on December 20, 1957 in Formiga street, 322, district of Lagoinha.[3] It is the sixth Baptist Church in Belo Horizonte, became known as Lagoinha Baptist Church. The church also has a television network titled Rede Super.[4]

In 2011 it was announced the construction of the new temple of Lagoinha Church will involve about 25,000 seats.[5][6]

Currently Lagoinha Baptist Church is located on the street Manoel Macedo, 360 in São Cristóvão neighborhood in Belo Horizonte, that until the inauguration of the new temple.[7]

Senior pastor

On May 15, 1958 Pastor José Rego do Nascimento arrives in the church bringing Pentecostal guidance to Lagoinha Church.[8] On July 31, 1972 the current pastor Márcio Valadão assumed the presidency of the church.[9]

Lagoinha nations

Lagoinha nations is one of around 200 ministry from Lagoinha Church. This ministry holds church services and other events in English and in Spanish every Sunday. Foreigners are very welcome. Services in other languages are planned.[10]


Expansion

On January 31, 1998 the Lagoinha worship ministry recorded their first album, whose goal was to raise funds for a missionary work in India. The group led by Ana Paula Valadão, the pastor's daughter, became one of the main references of Brazilian worship, introducing dance, spontaneous songs, prophecies and more freedom for the churches.[11] The project Diante do Trono would later become the name of one of the church's various ministries. The album even sold more than 600,000 copies, making Lagoinha Church a benchmark in praise and worship.[12]

In addition to the worship ministry Diante do Trono, led by Ana Paula Valadão, other great references in worship emerged from the church, such as André Valadão, Nívea Soares, Mariana Valadão, Gabriela Rocha, Israel Salazar, Ana Nóbrega and Marine Friesen.[13]

In addition to its headquarters in Belo Horizonte, Lagoinha has branches in several cities in Brazil and the world. Niterói, Rio de Janeiro, Teresópolis, Curitiba, São Paulo, Porto Alegre, Cuiabá, Fortaleza, Recife and Brasília are some of the main cities in Brazil that have churches in Lagoinha. In Europe, cities like London, Lisbon, Braga, Porto, Paris, Berlin, Barcelona and Madrid already have filial churches. In the United States, Boston, Orlando and Miami.[14][15][16]

Ministries

Lagoinha Church has more than 200 distinct ministries in operation. Among them, the AMGI, Rede Super, Estância Paraíso, CTMDT and the Fábrica de Artes, where it was created to serve the local church in the arts area and the community in general.

Fábrica de Artes (Arts Factory)

Inaugurated in 2012, Fábrica de Artes is a school founded in Belo Horizonte by the Lagoinha Church, which aims to train artists in the area of dance, theater and music. The building designed by architect Vladimir Ribeiro consists of 70 classrooms, two multipurpose rooms with capacity for 100 people, another simultaneous rehearsal room for choir and orchestra with capacity for 120 people, two bands studios, three dance halls, one for theater, dozens of classrooms for individual instruments and a theater with capacity for 400 people.
