Líneas Aéreas Suramericanas (LAS CARGO) is a cargo airline based in Bogotá, Colombia. It operates scheduled and chartered cargo flights to North and South America, Mexico, and the Caribbean. Its main base is El Dorado International Airport, Bogotá.[1]

History

The airline started operations in 1972, created as AeroNorte and using Curtiss C46 planes. In 1975 it started regional cargo service and bought a Douglas DC-6.

The company changed its name in 1986 to Líneas Aéreas Suramericanas and started traveling to North America with a CL-44 plane. In 1987 it started flying between Bogotá and Panamá,[1] when a Caravelle plane joined the fleet.

In 1991 the company bought its first Boeing B727-100. In 2001 the company purchased two DC-9 aircraft for widening its domestic operations. In 2002 two Boeing B727-200 were acquired, equipped with JT8D-15 and JT8D-17 turbines.

By 2005 the company had built its own two hangars and purchased its fourth Boeing B727-200 plane, and by the end of 2008 two Boeing B727-200 Super27 planes joined the fleet. The company became an IATA member in 2013.

The company updated its coporate image in 2014 including a new logo and a new livery design for its aircraft.

On 13 July 2016 Boeing announced that LAS CARGO had purchased two B737-800 BCF planes to join its fleet.[3]
