Archbishop Kurian Mathew Vayalunkal[1][2][3][4] is a Vatican Diplomat and the current Apostolic Nuncio to Papua New Guinea and Solomon Islands.

Early life

He was born on 4 August 1966 in Kottayam, Kerala.

Education

He completed his minor seminary from St. Stanislaus Minor Seminary. He completed his Philosophy and Theology studies at St. Joseph’s pontifical Seminary, Aluva. In 1998 he obtained a doctorate in Canon Law from the “Santa Croce” University, Rome. He also completed his diplomatic studies from “Pontificia Accademia Ecclesiastica”, Rome.

Priesthood

He was Ordained as a priest on 27 December 1991.

Episcopate

He was named a Chaplain to His Holiness, title of Monsignor by Pope John Paul II in 2001. He was also named a Prelate of Honor by Pope Benedict XVI in 2011. He was appointed as Apostolic Nuncio to Papua New Guinea on 3 May 2016. He was appointed Titular Archbishop of Ratiaria on 3 May 2016. He was Ordained Bishop on 25 Jul 2016. He was appointed Apostolic Nuncio to Solomon Islands on 21 Sep 2016. Currently he is appointed as First Counsellor of the Vatican Embassy and Additional delegate to the Arab League in Egypt.[5][6]
