Kjeld Nuis (Dutch pronunciation: [kjɛlt nœys]; born 10 November 1989)[1] is a Dutch speed skater.
He is a two-time Olympic champion, having won Olympic gold in both 1000 and 1500 metres at the 2018 Winter Olympics, a two-time world single distance champion in the 1000 and 1500 metres from 2017 and many-time world single distance medalist in the 1000 and 1500 metres between 2012–2017, and a 4-time season overall World Cup season winner of the 1000 metre distance (stretching from 2012 to 2018) and 2-times over 1500 metres (2017 and 2018). His specialty events are 1000 and 1500 metres.
Career
At the 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang, Nuis won the gold medal at the 1500 m and 1000 m events. He has also won the 2017 World Single Distance Speed Skating Championships in the 1000 and 1500 meter events, and is the current holder of the Dutch 1000 m record.[2] He lives in Emmen.[3]
In May 2018, on Swedish lake, he set up a new world speed skating record of 93 kilometers per hour.[4]
