Kira Pika (きら☆ぴか) was a Japanese pop music duo that was part of the Hello! Project collective created for the anime Kirarin Revolution in 2007.[1] The members consisted of Koharu Kusumi from Morning Musume and Mai Hagiwara from Cute, who voiced Kirari Tsukishima and Hikaru Mizuki in the show.[2] The name of the group is a portmanteau of the characters' names.

Career

Koharu Kusumi had a starring role in Kirarin Revolution as the main character, Kirari Tsukishima.[3] Mai Hagiwara had a guest role on the show from June 2007 to September 2007.[4] Hagiwara's role, Hikaru Mizuki, was an original character made for the show. In the story, Kirari becomes Hikaru's mentor to help her debut by being in an idol subgroup together.[5]

Kira Pika released their only single, "Hana o Pūn/Futari wa NS", on August 1, 2007.[6] Both songs served as Kirarin Revolution's sixth and seventh ending themes.[7] Kusumi and Hagiwara also portrayed their characters on the variety show Oha Suta[8] and live events.[9]

After their solitary release, the duo disbanded when Hagiwara left the show in September 2007.[4] Kira Pika made its reunion performance during Kirarin Revolution's final touring event on May 4, 2009, where Hagiwara appeared as a mystery special guest.[10]

Years after Kira Pika disbanded, Kusumi and Hagiwara briefly reunited on Momoiro Clover Z's variety show Kōnosuke Sakazaki's Pink Folk Village Next (坂崎幸之助のももいろフォーク村NEXT, Sakazaki Kōnosuke no Momoiro Fōku Mura Nekusuto) on November 19, 2015, and performed "Futari wa NS."[11]
