Kila Raipur is a noted village of Ludhiana district in Punjab, India[1] as it hosts the annual Kila Raipur Sports Festival, known as the Rural Olympics.[2][3] The events played often demonstrate the physical strength and valor of the Punjabi men and women.

Geography

The village is approximately centered at 30°45′43″N 75°49′22″E / 30.76194°N 75.82278°E / 30.76194; 75.82278[4] and located only 19 km away from Ludhiana city.

Famous personalities

Karnail Singh Grewal born on 1.11.1911, was son of Dasaundha Singh, a rich farmer of Kila Raipur. Karnail Singh was intensively involved in research in area of Physics holding three Indian Patents (114462, 112184 and 151968) in his name sharing one with Pritpal Singh Grewal (Ex Principal of Guru Nanak Dev Engieering College, Ludhiana). He died at the age of 89 on 4.3.2000 at Shahbad Markanda.

Joseph Cohen, although not a permanent resident is spiritually linked to the location. He’s most commonly recognized for his ferocious appetite and holds several competitive eating titles.
