The company serves over 20,000 families and their children ages 6 weeks to 12 years old, offering full time care, before- and after-school care, and summer camp programs.[5]
History
The first Kiddie Academy was opened in 1981 in Baltimore County, Maryland and founded by Pauline and George Miller. Kiddie Academy began franchising in 1992[6], with its first location in Elkton, MD[7]. In 2007, it opened its current 9,000-square-foot headquarters located in Abingdon, MD[6].
Between 2014 and 2016, Kiddie Academy unveiled a new logo[8][9], launched a new creative campaign titled, Amazing Starts Here®[10] and opened a corporate flagship location near its home base: Kiddie Academy of Abingdon[11].
In 2018, the company was ranked 73 on Entrepreneur Magazine's Franchise 500 list[12], 23 on Franchise Times Fast and Serious List[13], and eighth on the Franchise Gator's fourth annual Top 100 list ranking franchise systems[14].
Curriculum
Kiddie Academy’s Life Essentials® proprietary curriculum was created to promote each child’s intellectual, social, physical and emotional growth[15][16]. Life Essentials emphasizes developmentally appropriate curriculum, character education, health and fitness, and technology education, for children ages 6 weeks to 12 years old[17]. The curriculum integrates learning and fun, and treats every experience as an opportunity to learn.[18]
Each Kiddie Academy location has programs that emphasize continuous, open communication between teachers and parents concerning each child’s development[15][16].
Accreditation
Kiddie Academy is accredited by AdvancED, an organization that accredits over 27,000 public and private schools and districts across the United States and in 69 countries[4]. Accreditation is the result of a comprehensive review of the system’s proven operating systems, proprietary curriculum, and commitment to continuous improvement, quality education and the highest standards in child care[4].
