Keely always knew that she wanted to be a professional athlete. She competed in every sport imaginable before she narrowed the list down to tennis and surfing. When she was 16, her parents forced Keely to pick a sport to concentrate her talents on. Surfing won out. She finished second in the Australian Junior Surfing Titles, which was a wake-up call to realize she could take this somewhere.[7]
