Tyler Wright (born March 31, 1994) is an Australian professional surfer on the WSL World Tour.[2][3] She is currently the back-to-back WSL Women's World Champion (2016, 2017).
Early life
Wright, from a close-knit surfing family, grew up at Culburra Beach, a surf spot about two hours south of Sydney near Nowra.[4] Her four siblings are Owen, Kirby, Mikey, and Tim. Parents Rob, a passionate surfer, and Fiona used to drive the whole family around Australia following the amateur scene.[5]
Career
Wright showed precocious talent and at just 14 she overtook multiple champions, some twice her age, to become the youngest-ever winner of a Championship Tour event,[6] Layne Beachley's Beachley Classic in 2008. Since joining the World Surf League Women's Championship Tour in 2011, Tyler has matured and grown from strength to strength culminating with World Titles in 2016 and 2017. To date Tyler's career wins include more than 13 World Tour events and 2 WSL Women's World Titles.[4]
Media
Australian TV channel ABC featured her in their biographic documentary program Australian Story on national television, March, 2017.[6]
