Recognition Controversy

De-Recognition, Controversy & Re-recognition

UGC de-recognized several courses of KSOU with effect from 2012-13 and the university itself was de-recognized in 2015 after it was found violating several norms of UGC and DEC, IGNOU. The university had violated the norms related to territorial jurisdiction by establishing study centres all over India and also offered admission to courses within India and also abroad violating the regulations. Even after being issued a show cause notice, it continued this practice and did not relent.Career of thousands of students of KSOU was jeopardised by the de-recognition and it led to protests by students and also a few petition was filed in the Karnataka High Court. After several initiative of KSOU, Government of Karnataka and direction of the high court, finally 17 courses of KSOU was again granted recognition from the year 2018 onwards. However, lives of earlier students are still in limbo as it is not sure whether they would get their degree or not, though a bridge course and a test is likely to be conducted for earlier students for the award of degrees.[8][9]
