Karin Takahashi (髙橋果鈴) is a theatrical actress and was a former member of Prizmmy☆, a Japanese dance and vocal unit under Avex Pictures, before their disbandment on March 31, 2017. Her dance stage name during her time as a Roni Girl[1] was 'CaN'. She is a 2nd & 3rd Generation of Roni Girls, a Japanese brand. Some of her well known works are her roles as Sailor Saturn in the Sailor Moon Musicals (Amour Eternal and Un Nouveau Voyage) and as Sayu Yagami in the Death Note Musical 2017.

History

Born on July 22, 2000, in Chiba Prefecture, Karin has been a Roni girl since 2010 at a young age.[2] In 2011, she was featured in Pretty Rhythm: Aurora Dream along with Mia Kusakabe and Reina Kubo (Ayami Sema joined later) where they were portrayed as trainees. She also hosted Pretty Rhythm: Dear My Future and Pretty Rhythm: Rainbow Live Pretty Rhythm Studio along with the other members of Prizmmy☆ and Prism☆Mates. As a member of Prizmmy☆ / Prism☆Box she participated in singing the theme songs of those anime including its successor PriPara. Karin has released a total of 12 singles with Prizmmy☆, three singles as a member of Prism☆Box, three albums as a member of Prizmmy☆ and also participated in their mini-album LOVE TROOPER, which was released in February 2016.[3] In their first album TAKE OFF!!, she was given a solo song, called "Tear Smile".[4]

Pre-Debut

Before debuting with Prizmmy☆ she started off as a model for a Japanese brand, Roni. She was in the 2nd generation and also in the 3rd generation. Her sister and fellow group members including Mia Kusakabe, Reina Kubo and Hina Miyazaki were also models for this brand. Karin was also a model and dancer for Dance Style Kids (DSK).

Personal life

Takahashi learned gymnastics from the age of 3 but discontinued it when she was around 12 years old.

Karin has a younger sister who was also a dancer, model, singer and pianist. Mirei was also a Roni Girl and was a former member of Prism Mates, Prizmmy's sister group.

Career

Prizmmy☆: (2012 - 2017)

Karin debuted as a member of Prizmmy☆ in 2012 with the song "Everybody's Gonna Be Happy" [5] which is also the 4th ending of the anime television series Pretty Rhythm: Aurora Dream. She hosted the show along with Mia Kusakabe and Reina Kubo. Ayami Sema joined them later.

On her debut stage she unfortunately had hay fever and had to cover her right eye with an eye patch.

She auditioned to be a member of the "original Prism Mates" until Ayami joined changing the name to "Prizmmy". Where in the anime Jun says that Prizmmy stands for "Prism With Me".

Her anime character in the anime series Pretty Rhythm: Dear My Future is also named Karin but the surname is "Shijimi" (志々美) not "Takahashi" (髙橋).

She has released a total of 12 singles as a Prizmmy☆ member to date. In 2013, Karin had her solo song "Tear Smile" released along with Prizmmy☆'s first album Take Off!! [6]

In Prizmmy her catchphrase is "When in a pinch smile, if you get the chance smile! Smile Forever!" (ピンチも笑顔、チャンスも笑顔!スマイルフォーエバー!)

On December 9, 2016 along with fellow Prizmmy members and Prism Mates, they announced that they will no longer be a group as of March 2017.[7] They finally disbanded on March 31, 2017 with their last live being held on March 30 and all the tickets of the venue being sold out.

Their last album "Prizmmy☆ THE BEST!" was released on February 22, 2017.

Sailor Moon - First Acting Career

In 2015, she was chosen for the Sailor Moon Musical Un Nouveau Voyage where she played the role of Sailor Saturn. She received a lot of popularity after participating in this musical.

In 2016, she played Sailor Saturn again in the Sailor Moon Musical ~ Amour Eternal.

In April 2017, she, along with the rest of the Sailor Moon Musical Cast (except Chibiusa) attended Anime Matsuri[8] in Heuston Texas as guests.

After 6 years with Prizmmy, Karin decided to pursue a career in musicals after she realized her love for acting during her time in Sailor Moon.

Solo

After the disbandment of Prizmmy, Karin continues to act in musicals because singing and dancing are still involved.

Karin also was featured in an educational video.
