Biography

Ishimaru played various instruments such as the piano, cello, trombone and snare drum from childhood.[2][3] He studied the cello at an ordinary music course at Chiba Prefectual Makuhari-Nishin High School (now Chiba Prefectural Makuhari General High School),[3] attempted to enroll in majoring the saxophone at the Tokyo College of Music, shocked by the singing voice of American classing singer Jessye Norman at three years, and passed the Tokyo University of the Arts Faculty of Music of Vocal Music.[2] Ishimaru learned songs and graduated from the same university.[2]

In 1990, he debuted in the role of Raoul of Shiki Theatre Company's The Phantom of the Opera.[2] Since then, Ishimaru acted as a signboard actor for the theatre company.[2]

During his activities outside the theatre company, he appeared in advertisements for Oronamin C (co-starring with SMAP's Takuya Kimura)[2] and Nescafé Gold Blend. Ishimaru enrolled in a theater company for seventeen years and then left in 2007.[2]

In 2012, he won the 37th Kazuo Kikuta Theater Awards Theater Prize.

In 2013, Ishimaru played as branch manager Tadasu Asano in the Tokyo Broadcasting System's television drama Hanzawa Naoki, and made his breakthrough.[2]

In 2 April 2017, he took place as the sixth chairperson of TV Asahi's long-running music programme Daimei no nai Ongakukai.[4]
