Kaleigh Fratkin (born March 24, 1992) is a Canadian women’s ice hockey player with the Metropolitan Riveters of the National Women's Hockey League (NWHL). She was the first Canadian player to sign a contract in the NWHL.[1]

Early life

Fratkin was born and raised in Burnaby, British Columbia, Canada, and is Jewish.[2][3][4] Her parents are Ron and Marilyn Fratkin, and she has two brothers, Jesse (who played on the Brown University men's ice hockey team and on the Stockton Thunder of the ECHL) and Casey (who played on the Elmira College and Wesleyan University men's ice hockey teams).[5][6][7]

She played lacrosse and soccer at Burnaby Central High School.[5]

Playing career

At the NCAA level, Fratkin accumulated 66 points with the Boston University Terriers women's ice hockey program, she was a 2013-14 New England Division I All-Star and Hockey East First-Team All-Star, as she studied at the university's College of Communication.[5][8] With Canada's U22/Development Team, she earned a gold medal at the 2015 Nations Cup in Germany.

CWHL

Selected in the 5th round of the 2014 CWHL Draft, Fratkin played for the Boston Blades of the Canadian Women's Hockey League during the 2014–15 season, accumulating eight points in 22 games played.[9] She competed in all postseason games, and helped the Blades capture the 2015 Clarkson Cup.

NWHL

On December 31, 2015, Fratkin was one of three Connecticut Whale players (including Kate Buesser and Shannon Doyle) who were loaned to the Boston Pride.[10] The three donned the Pride jerseys for one day and participated in the 2015 Women's Winter Classic, the first outdoor professional women’s hockey game.[11]

Fratkin was selected to participate in the 1st NWHL All-Star Game, which took place on January 24, 2016 at Harbor Center in Buffalo, New York.[12][3] In February 2016, she was the highest paid Canadian in the league, at $20,000.[2] That season, she led the NWHL in most points by a defenseman, with 17.[3]

In April 2016, she signed with the New York Riveters.[13][14] Fratkin was again an All Star in 2016-17.[3]

During the 2017-18 NWHL season, Fratkin joined the Boston Pride, the third team in her NWHL career.

Other

During the 2015-16 season, Fratkin served as an analytics intern with the New York Islanders.[15]
