Once upon a time, there was a kingdom named Avanti, its King was Anangapala Maharaju (Dhulipala). He has two wives; Vinutha Devi (Hemalatha) and Saritha Devi (Chaya Devi). Vikram is the son of the first wife, Vinutha Devi, who is the future heir. On the occasion of his birthday, someone tried to kill him, but he was protected by Chief Commander Veerasena (Mikkilineni). The attempt was done by Mahamantri Charuvakudu (Mukkamala), Deputy Commander Dindimavarma (Tyagaraju) and Bhujangam (S. V. Ramadasu), brother of Saritha Devi, who is trying to capture the kingdom, Saritha Devi also mixes up with them to make her son Vinoda Varma a king. In that process, they create an illusion to the King's eyes and prove that Vinutha Devi has an illegal affair Veerasena. The king orders the death sentence to both of them, but to prove their innocence, Veerasena escapes along with Vinutha Devi and Vikram by losing his limb. Time passes, Vikram (N. T. Rama Rao) comes to know regarding the past. Now Vikram decides to remove the black mark on his mother, so, he reaches the fort, gets the appreciation of the King and joins as his bodyguard. In the fort, he gets the acquaintance of Madhumathi (Jayalalithaa), daughter of Bhujangam and both fall in love. Meanwhile, Kiriti (Satyanarayana), son of Charuvakudu develops an animosity towards Vikram, so, he makes a plot by killing Vinoda Varma (Ramakrishna) and puts the blame on Vikram. Vikram is stood as a murderer in the front of the King. At the same time, Vinutha Devi reaches there, the King recognizes her and blames her as impure. Listening to this, Vikram bursts out making a challenge that he will prove his mother's innocence and escapes from there along with his mother. From that day, Vikram chases the baddies like a shadow in different attires by the name Kadaladu Vadaladu. He teases and puts conflicts among them and at last, reveals the truth to the King. Finally, Vikram eliminates all the baddies and the movie ends with the marriage of Vikram and Madhumathi.
