K. Vijayan is an Indian film director predominantly having worked in Tamil cinema. He has mainly worked with Sivaji Ganesan and Kamal Haasan.^[1] He has also directed a great number of films in Malayalam.

Early career

K.Vijayan was an employee of Trichy Golden Rock Railways^[2]. His first role as lead actor was Paadhai Theriyudhu Paar released in 1960. Later by end of that decade he started directing movies and was mostly associated with Producer K.Balaji of Sujatha Cine Arts. During the 1970s and until the mid 1980s, he directed numerous Shivaji Ganesan movies, including Kaaval Dheivam, Punniya Boomi and the 1979 blockbsuter Thirisoolam. His other notable movies include Mohan and Poornima Baghyaraj courtroom drama hit Vidhi, Kamal Hassan and Madhavi Sattam, Mangamma Sabadham Rajinikanth's Vidhuthalai, a remake of Qurbani, Vandichakkaram etc. He died in 1988 during the filming of En Rathathin Rathame, starring K. Baghyaraj, which was eventually completed by his son Sundar K. Vijayan.

Samuthirakani of Nadodigal fame and K. S. Adhiyaman were once assistants to K. Vijayan.^[3][4] His son Sundar K. Vijayan has directed numerous television serials.
