John Williams Rose (born February 23, 1965) is an American politician and businessman who served as Commissioner of Agriculture of Tennessee and is president of Boson Software, LLC.[1][2] He is currently running for Tennessee's 6th congressional district in 2018. [3]

Early life and education

Rose was born and raised in Cookeville, Tennessee, and earned an agribusiness economics degree from Tennessee Technological University,[2] a Master of Science degree in agricultural economics from Purdue University,[2] and a law degree from Vanderbilt University.[2]

Career

After law school, he co-founded Transcender Corp.,[2] a company that earned the prestigious Music City Future 50 Award five consecutive years. Transcender Corp. was sold in October 2000 for $60 million.[4] Rose currently owns and is the president of Boson Software and Technology, which helps train IT professionals. [5]

Commissioner of Agriculture

In 2002, Rose was appointed Commissioner of Agriculture for the State of Tennessee.[6] As a lifelong farmer and owner of one of Tennessee's oldest working farms,[7] Rose was only 37 at the time of his appointment.[6]

Tennessee State Fair Association chairman

Rose is the chairman of the Tennessee State Fair Association.[8] The Tennessee State Fair Association is run by a volunteer board of directors.[9] Rose has chaired the group as a volunteer since 2010.[9]

6th Congressional District candidacy

Rose, a Republican, is running for the United States Congress 6th Congressional District, a seat held currently by Republican Diane Black, who is running for Governor of the State of Tennessee.[10][11]
