John L. Casey[1] is an American author. Casey's literary works include Dark Winter and Cold Sun. His current residence is Orlando, Florida.[2]

He suffered a major stroke on Friday, September 8, 2017, followed by a year of intense physical therapy.

Career

According to Casey's biographical page,[3] he has, over the course of thirty-five years, been a national space policy advisor for the United States of America, a field engineer, as well as a NASA consultant. His first book, Cold Sun, was published on May 1, 2011.[4] His second book, Dark Winter, which is a refinement of Cold Sun, was published on August 19, 2014.[5] Casey's newest work, Upheaval, was published on December 14, 2016.[6]

Casey's biographical page also makes note of his former role as the President of the Space and Science Research Corporation(SSRC), which had shut down in August 2015.[7] He is also currently the acting CEO of the International Earthquake and Volcano Prediction Center (IEVPC).[8]

Unlike the first two of Casey's publications, Upheaval is primarily about his predictions of future, potentially catastrophic earthquakes occurring in the United States.[9]

Casey has appeared multiple times on online media,[10] often to elaborate on his global cooling theory. He has, according to his biography, appeared in over a hundred different media interviews.[11]

Casey states that he has also worked on an investigative team regarding NASA's challenger incident[12] during a lecture.

Casey is currently the acting president of the Veritence Corporation, a science and engineering consultation company.[13]

Theory

Global cooling is the central theory presented in Casey's Cold Sun and Dark Winter. Casey's theory, in particular, revolves around the belief that industrial CO2 emission is not severe enough to cause a change in earth's climate and that climate change is entirely impacted by the sun. Dark Winter also makes note that global climate cooling would begin approximately 3–14 years past Casey's initial discovery.[14]

According to Casey, the earth is currently going through an interglacial warm period, a rare time of reprieve from an otherwise cold earth.[15] This period of warmth essentially serves as Casey's explanation for the exponential growth of human civilization in the past few millennia.[16] Moreover, Casey makes note that this period of warmth and prosperity, according to his calculation, is on the brink of ending.[17]

Casey's theory also emphasizes the importance of sunspot patterns in determining the sun's effect on earth's climate.[18] His belief is that the numerous sunspot patterns that have been observed throughout earth's history have affected the global climate in various ways. Casey's theory is that the sun is currently within a 206-year cycle and that a drastic cycle change is imminent. He believes this cycle change will lead to the severe cooling down of the earth.[19]

Another central point in Casey's global cooling theory is the lack of counter strategy in regards to the advent of an ice age.[20] Casey states that "solar hibernation" is ultimately inevitable and that the sun will continue to cycle into its next stage regardless of the actions of the common man.

Background

Casey's career was as a scientist for NASA and NOAA. After he retired from that work, he began research on a project to become a book that studied the possible links between solar activity and tectonic activity on Earth. It was in the course of gathering and examining that data that he discovered the very strong correlations between sunspot activity and temperatures on Earth. This discovery was evolved into the Relational Theory that is the basis of his first two books.

Casey does not have a background in climatology nor does he have experience in meteorology.[21] In one of his live interviews and presentations, Casey makes note that this distinct lack of experience or relevant background is often attacked by his critics.[22]

Casey holds a B.S. in physics and math, as well as a MA in management.[23]

Alma Mater

Casey received his B.S in physics and math from Jacksonville State University and his MA in Management from Webster University.[24]

Reception

Cold Sun holds a 3.4 on goodreads[25] and a 5 on Barnes & Noble's website.[26]

Dark Winter currently holds a 3.7/5 on goodreads,[27] as well as boasting a 4.3/5 on Barnes & Noble's review page.[28]

Upheaval, as of 14 December 2016 does not yet have available reviews

Overall, Casey's scientific books have garnered generally positive feedback.

Dark Winter, as of May 3, 2016, has been adapted into an hour-long documentary by Newsmax TV.[29]

Dr. Boris Komitov of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences has praised Dark Winter in particular as "both timely and necessary".[30]
