John Albers (born August 18, 1972), is a Georgia State Senator serving the 56th District, which encompasses northern portions of Fulton County and southeastern portions of Cherokee County. This area includes all of Roswell and Mountain Park and parts of Sandy Springs, Johns Creek, Alpharetta, Milton, and Woodstock.[1]

Early life and education

Senator Albers earned his bachelor of science degree in organizational leadership from the University of Louisville. Albers also graduated from the University of Georgia, Legislative Leadership Institute and the Cybersecurity program at Harvard University.

Albers has earned a seat on several boards of directors, including the following: The World Chamber of Commerce;[2] The Greater North Fulton Chamber of Commerce;[2] Alpharetta Public Safety Foundation (former chairman);[3] Chamberlain Nursing College, MediStreams, Saratoga Holdings, GreenPrint, Nobis Works, Roswell Fire & Police Foundation, Concord and Gilsbar Holdings Company.

Albers is a member of The Heritage Foundation's President's Club[4] and a benefactor to the Roswell Historical Society,[5] the Friends of Bullock Hall,[6] and Roswell's Kiwanis and Rotary clubs. He is a member of the Sons of the American Legion, Post 319 and has a strong history of supporting veterans supporting.

Senator Albers has long been an active member of his community serving as a coach at the Roswell Area Park's youth athletics program, and he is also a Scout Leader where both his sons earned the rank of Eagle Scout . He volunteers with Roswell United Methodist Church, in particular supporting RUMC Job Networking.

Albers is continuing a family tradition as a fourth generation firefighter. He is a member of the Georgia Firefighters Association and an active firefighter with the Alpharetta Public Safety Department. In 2011, 2015 and 2017, the Georgia State Firefighters Association and the Georgia Association of Fire Chiefs jointly honored Senator Albers, naming him "Legislator of the Year." Senator Albers is a member of Georgia Carry[7] and the National Rifle Association. Senator Albers has also been recognized for outstanding service by the Georgia Association of Police Chiefs and National Federation of Independent Business (NFIB) as well as a "Champion of Georgia's Cities" by the Georgia Municipal Association.

Senator John Albers and his wife, Kari of 25 years, have two sons: Will and Ryan living in Roswell and are members of Roswell United Methodist Church.

Political career

Albers was first elected to serve as senator for Georgia's 56th District in the 2010 general election. Albers won landslide victories being re-elected in 2012, 2014 and 2016. Senator Albers is a proud member of the National, State, Fulton and Cherokee Republican Parties.

In the legislature, Senator Albers serves in the leadership as the Chief Deputy Whip, chairman of the Senate Public Safety Committee, and vice chairman of the Senate Finance and Regulated Industry Committees.[8] He also sits on the Senate Veterans, Military and Homeland Security, Appropriations, and Rules committees. Senator Albers is the chairman of the Atlanta-Fulton County Senate Delegation.
