Yasuko KobayashiOctober 5, 2012October 15, 2016[14]
England 1868. An elderly thief named Dario Brando was raiding an overturned carriage when he and his wife find two surviving occupants, a man and his young son are still alive. The man, George Joestar, assuming Dario saved his life, claims he will forever be indebted to him. Twelve years later, George's son Jonathan, nicknamed JoJo, is a young man with the intent to become a gentleman, such as fighting for a woman's honor even if he will not win. Meanwhile, Dario is on his deathbed and he tells his son Dio to move in with the Joestar family to fulfill George's life debt. Dio does so after paying his final disrespect over his father's grave, intending to take Joestar fortune for himself. Dio does this by outshining Jonathan while making him a pariah among his family and friends. Even Jonathan's childhood love with Erina Pendleton is not safe from Dio, who takes her first kiss and makes her unable to even look Jonathan in the eye. Upon learning of Dio's action, Jonathan flies into a rage and manages to land a powerful hit on Dio. Caught off guard, some of Dio's blood is spilled on an ancient Stone Mask that seems to react until the fight is broken up by George. Then, the butler notices a crate in the incinerator but lights it anyway. The incinerator door is being pounded on from the inside, and the butler realizes the crate contained someone inside and that they were burning alive. When Jonathan gets home, it is revealed that the butler killed his beloved dog Danny(the butler having lied about being responsible for it, claiming it to be a 'burglar'), and Jonathan instantly deduces that it was Dio who delibrately put Danny in the crate so he could be killed, a part of his plan to become the heir to the Joestar fortune.

Yasuko KobayashiOctober 12, 2012October 22, 2016
Seven years later in 1888, Jonathan and Dio are supposedly getting along despite the former still fearful of his adopted brother with just reason. Soon after, George is ill and bed-ridden with Jonathan believing is more than a simple cold. While doing research on the strange mask, Jonathan finds the dying Dario's letter and finds the writer's symptoms are the same as his father's. Using Dio's pride against him, Jonathan deduces that Dio murdered his father and intends to do the same with George. After leaving instructions for only trusted doctors to tend to his father, Jonathan sets off to London to discover the origins of the poison. Fearing Jonathan would ruin his plans, Dio steals the Stone Mask with the intent to arrange an accidental death with it. Two days later, Jonathan's search takes him to the dodgy Ogre Street where he is attacked by a man in a bowler, using a sawblade. But Jonathan's sense of honor and desire to save his father convinces the bowler-wearing man to assist in the search for an Oriental druggist. Meanwhile, assuming that Jonathan died in Ogre Street, Dio crosses paths with two drunkards and the resulting scuffle ends with him slitting one of them to subject the other to an activated Stone Mask. But instead of the mask killing the second drunkard, Dio finds that it turned his victim into a powerful vampire that nearly kills him. Dio only just manages to survive due to the sunlight turning the vampire to dust. Returning to the mansion, Dio is confronted by Jonathan.

Having found an antidote, which he gave to George, Jonathan prepares to turn Dio in to the police. Dio attempts to lower Jonathan's guard to use his blood on the mask by feigning regret as he offers to turn himself in. But the bowler-wearing man, from Ogre Street, introducing himself as Robert E. O. Speedwagon, reveals himself while telling Jonathan that Dio is pure evil and brings the druggist Wang Chen who sold Dio the poison. George, having heard the whole thing, allows Jonathan and the constables to do what they must. While JoJo attempts to handcuff him, Dio attempts to stab him and ends up killing George and uses the mask on himself, while he is being killed by gunfire. Dying, George gives Jonathan his late mother's ring as the head constable reveals what George learned of Dario's nature before taking Dio in. George requests Jonathan to bear no ill will towards Dio before passing away, only for the vampirized Dio to come back to life and kills the constables while drinking the blood of one of them. Killing a vampirized constable, Jonathan attempts to kill Dio by focusing on his head. As several attempts to kill Dio fail, Jonathan sets the mansion ablaze and leads Dio to the roof so Speedwagon can escape. Jonathan attempts to sacrifice himself by dragging Dio down to a fiery death, but Dio's attempted counter forces Jonathan to use the layout to safely land while impaling Dio on the statue of Joestar family's guardian angel. As Speedwagon takes Jonathan away from the burnt ruins, it is revealed that Dio survived, as he drains Wang Chen of his blood, when Chen attempts to grab the mask from among the debris.

Three days after the incident, Jonathan awakens to find Erina nursing him back to health in the hospital. As they rekindle their friendship, they encounter a strange man named Will A. Zeppeli, who performs a technique on JoJo which allows him to soothe the pain of his broken arm. Zeppeli tells JoJo about the technique, known as the Hamon, which uses the energy of one's own body to perform impressive feats of strength. He also reveals that Dio still lives, and it is Jonathan's fate to go against the Stone Mask. As Jonathan ponders about not getting Erina involved, Zeppeli notices the ripple energy residing within him. Meanwhile, Dio continues to prowl London, recruiting the vilest men he knows into his undead army, including Jack the Ripper. As Zeppeli trains Jonathan to master the Hamon, he explains how he was one of the first to discover the Stone Mask and witness its dark powers, dedicating himself to mastering the Hamon in order to destroy it. Just then, Speedwagon informs them of people going missing in Windknights Lot, so the three of them travel there. Whilst passing through a tunnel into the town, they are attacked by Jack, and Zeppeli enters into a fight with him to give Jonathan his one and only lesson into how to use the Hamon. As Jack tries to lure them into a trap, Jonathan is tasked by Zeppeli to finish him off without spilling any of the wine he has poured into a glass. Using the wine, Jonathan comes to understand the Hamon, allowing him to kill Jack from the other side of a wall using his own Hamon technique: Overdrive.

However, as the sun falls, they find themselves confronted by Dio, who had hypnotised Poco to lure Jonathan's group to the graveyard where they are attacked by his legion of zombies. Zeppeli attempts to use his ripple attacks on Dio, but he counters by freezing his veins. After also managing to freeze Jonathan's hand, Dio summons two powerful zombie knights, Tarkus and Bruford, to finish the job for him. As Jonathan struggles against them, Speedwagon uses his body heat to thaw Zeppeli's arm. As the battle between JoJo and Bruford intensifies, it moves into the depths of a nearby lake. JoJo decides rather than trying to face Bruford during an ascent to the surface of the lake, he dives deeper. Bruford follows, but JoJo has managed to find a pocket of oxygen rich air under a rock, and uses this breath of air to launch a Turquoise Blue Overdrive attack at Bruford.

Tarkus then attacks, but Jonathan and Zeppeli manage to get Speedwagon and Poco to safety using a bunch of leaves as a hangglider. As they make their escape, Zeppeli recalls how he learned to control the Hamon from a man named Tonpetty. As Tarkus leaps after them, they touch down at a knight's training ground in order to stand against him. Jonathan is pulled inside the grounds by Tarkus, thrusting him into a Chain Neck Deathmatch, in which one must decapitate the other in order to free himself. Realizing Jonathan will be killed if no one does anything, Poco overcomes his nerves and enters the grounds via a window, managing to unlock the door so Zeppeli can get inside.

Using the last of his strength, Zeppeli transfers the last of his Hamon energy to Jonathan, allowing him to heal his injuries, break free from his chains, and obliterate Tarkus. Following the battle, Zeppeli tells Jonathan that he has accepted his fate and has passed his will onto him before passing away. As Jonathan, Speedwagon, and Poco make their way back to Windknights Lot, they meet Tonpetty, along with his other students, Dire and Straizo. Luckily, Jonathan and the others arrive in time to save her. Doobie soon reveals that his head is filled with poisonous snakes, managing to deliver a few bites to Jonathan's face, but neither the venom nor Doobie stands up to Jonathan's power. With Poco and Peggy reunited, Jonathan goes on to face Dio. Dire decides to face him first and launches an attack, but he is caught by Dio's freezing ability and is shattered into pieces, though with his last breath, he manages to shoot a ripple-powered rose into Dio's eye. As Jonathan learns from that sacrifice how he can damage Dio using the sword he received from Bruford, he goes on to confront Dio whilst Tonpetty and Straizo take on his undead army. Jonathan manages to slice his sword straight through Dio's body, but Dio uses this opportunity to freeze his sword and attack Jonathan's neck. However, Jonathan manages to thaw himself by heating the sword with a torch, though Dio manages to protect himself from Jonathan's attack. Just then, Jonathan sets his fists on fire to counter Dio's freezing and manages to break through his defenses with an Overdrive attack. As his body melts and he falls into the abyss, Dio launches a final attack which pierces Jonathan's hand, but appears not to do much more. With Dio presumed dead, Jonathan takes a long earned rest from his battles.

But after sunset, Jonathan discovers that the zombified Wang Chan has snuck aboard and realizes Dio is still alive. Jonathan eventually comes face to face with the disembodied head of Dio, who decapitated himself to evade Jonathan's Hamon. Dio then reveals his intention to take Jonathan's body to replace his own as Erina arrives to see Jonathan receives a near-fatal attack to his neck. Meanwhile, the ship starts to run amock with zombies after Wang Chan spreads the infection. Using the last Hamon energy he has, Jonathan manages to decapitate Wang Chan and compel his body to obstruct a piece of the cruise ship's mechanism, setting the ship on a path to explosion. As Erina resolves to die by her husband's side, Jonathan instead tells her to live on and protect a baby whose mother died during the zombie attack. As the ship starts to explode, Dio makes a last-ditch attempt to take Jonathan's body, but Jonathan stops him, passing away with Dio's head in his arms whilst Erina and the baby hide in Dio's bomb-proof coffin to protect them from the explosion. Erina is eventually rescued near the Canary Islands a day later, and vows to pass on the truth of what happened on February 8, 1889 to the unborn child she conceived with Jonathan and generations to follow.

As Kars and Esidisi head to the surface, Joseph proclaims that he has developed his own special Hamon technique using a pair of clackers. Lisa Lisa orders Joseph to wear a mask that limits his breathing for the duration of his training to better focus his Hamon. Lisa Lisa tasks Joseph and Caesar to climb the Hell Climb Pillar, a 24-meter pillar covered in oil. They can only climb it using Hamon or else they will starve to death at the pillar's foot. Observing Caesar's efforts, Joseph learns to climb up by focusing Hamon energy into just his fingertips. As the days pass, Joseph assumes crack in the pillar is an easy break, but this turns out to be a trap, causing the pillar to start spewing oil out horizontally at high pressure at its 20-meter mark. Caesar manages to pass through by using Hamon energy to simultaneously grip the pillar with his feet and repel the barrier, eventually reaching the peak. Joseph eventually manages to get past by travelling across the oil barrier to its weakest point so he can leap over it, but as he runs out of breath at the last meter, Caesar helps him up. Joseph is pleased with the results of his training, now able to keep a glass of water from spilling when held upside down, and asks for the next test. Lisa Lisa then brings in her servants, Messina and Loggins.

Following Wamuu's trail of blood, Joseph and Lisa Lisa encounter a vampire named Wired Beck, but Lisa Lisa easily defeats him using her Hamon-empowered scarf. As a promise to Caesar, Joseph states he will not take the antidote until he has beaten Wamuu. They soon encounter Wamuu and Kars, along with a hundred vampire minions. Lisa Lisa manages to hold off their attack bluffing that if she and JoJo are killed, a time bomb will destroy the Red Stone of Aja. Whilst retrieving the Red Stone, Joseph finds a picture of his grandmother Erina from fifty years ago. Before Joseph's and Wamuu's race begins, it is revealed that during each lap, there will be a different weapon for whoever can grab it from a pillar first. Joseph manages to get a head start by obstructing Wamuu's wheels with rubble, allowing him to get hold of the first weapon, a sledgehammer. However, Wamuu grabs hold of the pillar itself, forcing Joseph to abandon his chariot, although Joseph uses the hammer to avoid being trampled by Wamuu's horses. Wamuu launches an attack on Joseph by hiding within his horse, but Joseph manages to turn Wamuu's Divine Sandstorm attack back against him with the Hamon. In order to regain his focus, Wamuu gouges out his eyes and grows a horn that can sense the wind. The second lap offers a pair of crossbows. Joseph picks up one that is too big for him to use whilst Wamuu uses the wind to guide his shots with a smaller crossbow, managing to hit Joseph's sides with a reflected shot. As he is thrown to the ground, Joseph uses the momentum of the fall to cock his crossbow and manages to hit Wamuu with a Hamon-charged shot from his crossbow by distracting his senses with pebbles. Wamuu makes a desperate last attack by firing his severed arms at Joseph to cut off his breathing before gathering up wind for his Final Mode.

Launching his Final Mode attack, Gathering Gale [lower-alpha 1], Wamuu fires a stream of wind capable of cutting stone towards Joseph. After a failed attempt with a firebomb, Joseph strikes Wamuu with Caesar's flaming bandana, which Wamuu shreds with his wind. However, as planned by Joseph, Wamuu breathed in both the oil from the bomb and the burning embers of Caesar's bandana which cause him to explode from the inside. Realizing Wamuu's wounds are fatal, Joseph gives him some of his own blood to ease his passing as a sign of respect, as Wamuu showed Caesar. When the other vampires suddenly attack, Wamuu uses the last of his strength to kill them, not wanting them to interfere until the end and requests that Joseph drinks the antidote from his ring, before passing away without regret. Lisa Lisa prepares to battle Kars, who removes his headgear revealing long flowing hair. Initially, Lisa Lisa seems to have the upper hand using her Hamon-conducting scarf, however the devious Kars uses a vampire to act as his body double before he stabs Lisa Lisa with one of his Light Mode blades from behind. After claiming the Red Stone of Aja for himself, Kars sends his vampire army after the weakened Joseph, but he is rescued by Stroheim and his men, along with Speedwagon and Smokey, using ultraviolet lights to fight off the vampires. Joseph faces Kars who dangles Lisa Lisa's unconscious body over a bed of sharp crystals forcing Joseph into a vulnerable position. Joseph is forced to cling onto a rope to stop Lisa Lisa from falling to her death. He sets his scarf on fire, stating he will finish Kars off before it fully burns. Kars cuts the rope, but he falls instead into a trap laid by Joseph, who hits him with a Hamon attack, impaling him on the sharp crystals below. As Joseph rescues Lisa Lisa, Speedwagon explains to Smokey that Lisa Lisa's real name is Elisabeth and she was raised by Straizo who taught her the ways of the Hamon. She married George Joestar II, later giving birth to their child Joseph. On the run after murdering her husband's killer, Speedwagon erased her past, and placed her on Venice's Saplena Island where she changed her name to Lisa Lisa. Erina then raised Joseph, keeping his past a secret so he would never learn the Hamon and hopefully avoid the fate that befell the rest of her family. Meanwhile, Stroheim attempts to finish off Kars with multiple blasts of an ultraviolet beam, but Kars suddenly puts on the Stone Mask with the Red Stone of Aja in place. The artificial sunlight channels through the Super Aja, activating the Stone Mask and sending its undiluted energy into Kars, who undergoes a dramatic transformation.

Joseph's victory is short-lived. Kars emerges from the magma, where he was protected by an insulating layer of air bubbles, and slices off Joseph's hand in one swift movement. Kars is revealed to be the last of an ancient race that he slaughtered when they resisted his intention to evolve into a god at the expense of other living creatures. Kars then subjects Joseph to a more potent form of Hamon, but when Kars goes for the kill, Joseph subconsciously holds up the Super Aja. The stone intercepts Kars' Hamon and transmits the magnified energy into the volcano causing it to erupt, blasting Joseph and Kars into the air on a large piece of rock. Suddenly Joseph's severed arm hits Kars and distracts him long enough for the Pillar Man to be knocked higher by more flying rocks. Kars ends up being blasted out of Earth's atmosphere, becoming frozen lump of organic mineral as he drifts away from the planet. Joseph loses consciousness as his chunk of rock plummets back to the ocean and on February 28, 1939, Joseph Joestar is pronounced dead. However, he surprisingly appears at his funeral weeks later, having survived the fall and landing near Venice. He says he was nursed back to help by Suzi Q, whom he recently married, and received a prosthetic hand from Stroheim.

Epilogue: Joseph and Suzie Q move to America after learning that Lisa Lisa (Elizabeth) is his mother, and she then remarries in 1948. Erina lived out the rest of her life as an elementary school teacher and died in 1950 at the age of 81. Speedwagon died two years later at the age of 89 with no heirs. Smokey Brown ultimately became the first black mayor of his hometown in Georgia. Stroheim died an honorable death with the German forces on the frontlines at the Battle of Stalingrad.

Prologue: In 1983, off the coast of the Canary Islands, a coffin with the word "DIO" on the front is salvaged from the depths. The crew attempts to open it, but find that it is locked from the inside. Later, their ship is found, mysteriously abandoned with no signs of a struggle.

Four years later in Japan, a young man named Jotaro Kujo has willingly turned himself into jail, refusing to leave as he believes he is possessed by an "evil spirit" which only he can see. Jotaro's mother, Holly and his grandfather Joseph Joestar, bring his friend from Egypt, Mohammed Avdol to coax him out of his cell. Mohammed Avdol's "evil spirit" Magician's Red challenges Jotaro which causes Jotaro's psychic manifestation Star Platinum, known as a Stand, to appear. Joseph tells Jotaro about his family's 100 year old enemy, the vampire DIO, who now possesses the body of Jonathan Joestar. Joseph then uses a Stand of his own, resembling purple brambles, to smash an expensive instant camera, from which a photograph appears. After explaining how people from the Joestar bloodline have star-shaped birthmarks on the back of their necks, Joseph reveals the photograph to be a picture of DIO possessing the same birthmark, proving that he had stolen the body of his grandfather, Jonathan Joestar. He goes on to state that DIO's revival has caused the emergence of Stands in both himself and Jotaro. Elsewhere, DIO senses the presence of the Joestars and resolves to kill them.

He only manages to save himself by using his Stand to divert his fall. Jotaro receives a handkerchief from a new transfer student named Noriaki Kakyoin, unaware that he is the one responsible for his fall. Later, as Jotaro heads to the infirmary to have his wound treated, the nurse starts acting strangely, stabbing one of the other students with a pen before going after Jotaro with inhuman strength. Kakyoin appears and reveals he has used his personal Stand, Heirophant Green, to possess the nurse's body. Jotaro uses his Stand to pull Hierophant Green out of the nurse's body, only to be attacked by its Emerald Splash attack, leaving the nurse with harsh internal injuries. Despite appearing to be fatally injured by Heirophant Green's attack, Jotaro counter attacks using his Stand to pummel Heirophant Green until Kakyoin falls unconscious. After leaving the injured nurse to the school faculty, Jotaro takes Kakyoin back home to Joseph and Avdol. Joseph explains that Kakyoin is DIO's pawn and will likely die in a few days, caused by something implanted in Kakyoin's forehead.

Joseph reveals that the object on Kakyoin's forehead is a "flesh bud" that has a tendril going straight into his brain, making him swear loyalty to DIO. Avdol also reveals that recently DIO approached him the same way by using his charisma, but he managed to escape. Determined to save Kakyoin, Jotaro uses the precise nature of his Stand to remove the bud from Kakyoin's brain, despite the bud's attempts to invade Jotaro’s body. The next day, Avdol finds Holly collapsed in the kitchen with a Stand resembling rose vines. Avdol realizes that she does not have the willpower to control the Stand which is connected to DIO’s curse and estimates she only has fifty days to live. As killing DIO is the only way to save her, Jotaro uses his Stand to analyze photos Joseph had taken of DIO. They deduce that he is in the Aswan region of Egypt from the faint image of a particular fly. Kakyoin confirms their theory, and decides to join the group because of a fondness he feels for women like Holly. Avdol uses a deck of Tarot cards to give Jotaro's Stand the name of Star Platinum. As the group takes off on a flight towards Egypt, DIO, using a Stand power similar to Joseph's Hermit Purple, takes a photograph showing him their location. On the plane, Joseph senses DIO's presence, suspecting that there may be a Stand user on the plane.

As their plane passes over Taiwan, Jotaro and the others are awoken by the sound of a flying stag beetle. Avdol identifies it as an evil Stand known as Tower of Gray, which is responsible for causing mass murders that look like tragic accidents. Jotaro finds its speed outmatchs even Star Platinum's and it suddenly kills a row of passengers, using their bloody tongues to spell out the word "Massacre!". Before an elderly passenger raises the alarm, Kakyoin knocks him out. Kakyoin convinces the others that his Heirophant Green is the safest Stand to use. His Stand's Emerald Splash attack seems to have no effect against Tower of Gray's speed, however, it is a ploy by Kakyoin, who uses Heirophant Green to impale it using spikes from under the seating. When Heirophant Green rips Tower of Gray apart, its user Gray Fly, the elderly man from before, is fatally wounded. Joseph discovers that the pilots have been killed, but he manages to land the plane safely off the coast of Hong Kong, still over 10,000 kilometers (6,200 mi) from Egypt. The group realizes that they must find an alternate way of reaching Egypt that does not put innocent lives at risk and decide to travel by sea. As the group eats in a restaurant they are joined by a French tourist who soon reveals himself to be the owner of the sword-wielding Stand Silver Chariot and one of DIO's assassins.

With Polnareff defeated and burning alive, he refuses the opportunity to end his own life, admitting his defeat and resigning himself to be killed by the flames. Realizing the man's chivalry, Avdol releases him from the flames, and discovers that Polnareff is under the control of a DIO flesh bud, which Jotaro soon extracts. As the group heads for their boat the Speedwagon Foundation has hired for them, Polnareff appears and reveals that his true goal is to find and kill a Stand user with two right hands, who was responsible for the rape and murder of his younger sister, Cherie. However, Hol Horse, who is still alive, alerts Polnareff that Enya is about to attack him. Enya uses her fog to control the dead civilians of the village like zombies and chase Polnareff who retreats to a bathroom. Unfortunately, Polnareff is hit by a surprise attack through the bathroom door's keyhole, allowing Justice to take control of his tongue and force him to lick the toilet in humiliation. Enya is interrupted by Jotaro, who suspected something was amiss when she refers to him by his real name as they all used fake names when signing the hotel ledger. Enya inflicts a wound on Jotaro's leg, but Jotaro manages to overcome Justice's fog-like form by having Star Platinum inhale it, suffocating Enya until she passes out. Leaving the hotel, the village is revealed to be a cemetery and Jotaro suggests that they take Enya with them to learn more about DIO. Suddenly, Hol Horse makes off with their car, advising the group to kill Enya while they still can.

He gloats as Enya is killed by DIO's flesh buds that Steely Dan had implanted in her body to keep her from revealing the truth about DIO's Stand. She dies, still believing in DIO rather than telling Joseph anything. Jotaro has Star Platinum attack Steely Dan, only for Joseph to be simultaneously thrown back. Steely Dan reveals he has used his microscopic Stand The Lovers to enter Joseph's ear, where it causes any pain inflicted on himself to be amplified and sent to Joseph. He also reveals that The Lovers will begin implanting a flesh bud which will kill Joseph in 10 minutes. Jotaro, though angry, restrains himself as he caters to Steely Dan's whims to prevent him from hurting his grandfather. Meanwhile, Joseph, Kakyoin, and Polnareff seek out a television so Joseph can use Hermit Purple to make an image of the inside of his brain, allowing Kakyoin and Polnareff to shrink down their Stands to enter his body and locate The Lovers in order to save his life.

Jotaro stays with Steely Dan and continues to suffer his taunts, while Kakyoin and Polnareff's miniaturized Stands enter Joseph's brain to remove The Lovers and the DIO flesh bud. Although Polnareff acts first, he is hurt when the Lovers uses Joseph's brain cells to disguise himself as Heirophant Green and then make several clones of itself, leaving them unable to determine which one is the real Stand. Meanwhile, Jotaro is humiliated, beaten and forced to steal from a jewelry store by Steely Dan, all while making notes so he can make Steely Dan pay later. In Joseph's brain, Kakyoin manages to use Heirophant Green to find and attack the real Stand and force it out of Joseph's body, giving Joseph the opportunity to destroy the flesh bud in his brain with Hamon. Realizing he has been defeated, Steely Dan tries to divert Jotaro's attention so The Lovers can enter him instead, but he is quickly spotted and caught by Star Platinum. In desperation, Steely Dan tries to have The Lovers enter a young girl's ear, but it is stopped by Heirophant Green's tentacle, which Kakyoin attached before it escaped. This stops Steely Dan's movements completely, allowing Jotaro to finally take revenge for everything Steely Dan put him through.

The Joestar group are seen stranded in the desert under a blazing sun without shade or water. Earlier, they arrive in the United Arab Emirates where Joseph purchases an expensive car. He later trades it for camels to ride through the Arabian Desert. Despite having never ridden camels before, the group eventually manages to set off. A long while later, they realize that the sun is still in the sky, at 8 o'clock in the evening. With the temperature rapidly increasing, the group realizes what they thought was the sun is actually the Stand called The Sun. Kakyoin attempts to judge the distance of the Stand, but comes under attack from the Sun, which also ruins their water supply. All seems lost, particularly to Joseph when his younger companions all begin to laugh in an apparently heat induced delirium. However, Kakyoin has found a rock in the middle of the desert which is a mirror image of another. When Jotaro throws a rock in its direction, a crack seemingly appears in the sky, and the Sun is defeated, restoring the night sky. The group walk over to the crack to find the Sun's user, Arabia Fats, out cold in a mirrored blind where he had been hiding.

They are both attacked by Death 13, but find that they cannot summon their Stands to fight back. Mannish Boy attempts to use the dream world to his advantage and slice Heirophant Green in half, but Kakyoin instead sends his Stand into Death 13's ear, forcing Mannish Boy to heal Kakyoin's wounds and accept defeat. The group attempts to hide from the Stand, only for it to travel through the sand and surprise them, injuring Kakyoin's eyes. Realizing Iggy can detect N'Doul's attack, Jotaro coerces him into summoning The Fool, which he discovers can glide. Jotaro hitches a ride against Iggy's wishes so they can head towards N'Doul to stop him from attacking. As they get closer, both Iggy's stubbornness and N'Doul's cunning puts Jotaro at risk, but Jotaro manages to overcome this by using Star Platinum to grab Iggy and throw him in N'Doul's direction. This forces Iggy to protect himself with his Stand while it also manages to distract N'Doul long enough for Jotaro to get behind him and knock him out. Although Jotaro's attack is not fatal, N'Doul commits suicide through the use of Geb so he cannot be interrogated over DIO's plans. Before his death, N'Doul reveals that his Stand is Geb, after the Egyptian god, and he is only one of nine such Stand users, a fact that shocks Jotaro. Oingo prepares the trap once more, planting the prophesied bomb in the group's car, but he is caught offguard by the return of Joseph and Polnareff, forcing him to disguise himself as Jotaro. He joins the two in the car, and both he and Boingo soon realize that while he is still disguised as Jotaro, he might be the one Thoth predicted would be affected by the bomb. Oingo manages to escape the car, but the bomb finds its way back to him and he is injured, just as the real Jotaro rejoins his grandfather and Polnareff. Not willing to give up the information for free, D'Arby suggests they should instead gamble for it with their souls on the line. Polnareff goes first, and the two bet on which of two pieces of fish a cat would go for first. Polnareff loses, and D'Arby makes good on the bet by using his Stand Osiris to steal Polnareff's soul and implant it in a poker chip, with the cat soon revealed to be his pet. The group realizes they have come across one of DIO's assassins, so Joseph puts up his own soul in a wager against D'Arby next. They bet to see who will cause a glass full to the brim to overflow by dropping coins into it. On his turn, Joseph tries to outcheat D'Arby by dropping more liquid into the glass, knowing that on D'Arby's turn it will overflow, but D'Arby easily puts his coin in. Joseph cannot figure out how his cheat did not work, and gives up in his mind, leaving D'Arby to steal his soul as well. Jotaro discovers D'Arby had used a small piece of chocolate to change the way the glass appeared to be full and let it melt, but he decides to step and face D'Arby next, and tries to beat the man at his own game: poker.

D'Arby prepares his and Jotaro's game of poker by splitting up Polnareff and Joseph's souls into six poker chips each he will use to bet with, giving Jotaro a set of six to represent his own soul. Jotaro shows off how precise Star Platinum's eyesight is by predicting the deal of the cards, and catches D'Arby as his about to cheat by second dealing, leading Jotaro to pick a boy near the café to deal for them. Jotaro loses three chips in his first hand against D'Arby, and in the second hand D'Arby is dealt four kings, but Jotaro appears to have not once looked at his cards. D'Arby begins to worry, as he knows the boy and everyone else in the café are in his employ, and the boy is sure he has dealt Jotaro a bum hand, but Jotaro raises all of his soul and Avdol's soul on his bet, while using Star Platinum to get himself a cigarette and a drink. D'Arby believes he is bluffing, seeing his bet and raising it, betting the rest of Jotaro's soul and all of Joseph and Polnareff's souls. Jotaro sees his bet with Kakyoin's soul and then raises with the soul of his mother Holly. D'Arby, unsure if Jotaro has managed to use Star Platinum to change out all of his cards to a better hand, mentally folds as he goes catatonic. All of the souls he won in bets are released, allowing Joseph and Polnareff to recover as Avdol looks at Jotaro's cards, realizing that he had been dealt a bad hand. Jotaro admits he never once looked at his cards to keep his cool, but laments that they will not be able to interrogate D'Arby for information on DIO.

Having been caught by Pet Shop's ice attacks, Iggy is forced to lose one of his paws in order to escape the sewers via its water supply, using The Fool to hide at the bottom of the river. However, even when hiding underwater, Iggy is not safe from Pet Shop, who dives into the river after him and uses his ice in an attempt to crush Iggy's dome. Digging downwards only to find Pet Shop waiting for him, Iggy uses the pressure from the collapsing dome behind him to rush forward and clamp Pet Shop's beak shut just as he prepares an ice missile, causing him to destroy himself. He is subsequently found by a fully recovered Kakyoin, who reunites with the group after having a Speedwagon Foundation doctor treat Iggy's injuries. The servant, who reveals himself to be D'Arby's younger brother Terence T. D'Arby, brings out his Stand Atum to drag Jotaro, Kakyoin, and Joseph into an illusory world. There, D'Arby reveals a collection of dolls which, similar to the Elder D'Arby's poker chips, contain to souls of people he has defeated. With his Stand managing to grab onto Jotaro's arm when he attempts to attack it with Star Platinum earlier, D'Arby challenges the trio to a series of video games with their souls on the line in order to have him relinquish Jotaro. D'Arby first challenges Kakyoin in a racing video game, with both players using their Stands to perform advanced techniques. With the race neck-and-neck throughout most of the course, the pair soon enter a dark tunnel, with D'Arby gaining a slight lead.

Kakyoin uses his higher power level to knock D'Arby off the course, but this turns out to be D'Arby's plan, who uses the push to land further ahead on the course, resulting in Kakyoin losing the match and having his soul trapped in one of D'Arby's dolls. Jotaro steps up to face against D'Arby in a baseball video game, wagering his soul against Kakyoin's, despite having never played a video game in his life. Although Jotaro gets two of his batters knocked out at the start, he soon figures out the controls by his third batter and scores four home runs, though D'Arby uses a change of pitcher to catch Jotaro's third batter out. As D'Arby goes on the offensive, managing to predict Jotaro's moves after declaring his bats and scoring three home runs, Joseph assumes that D'Arby has the power to read people's minds, though Jotaro decides to face D'Arby at his own game by declaring his next pitch.

D'Arby uses Atum to peer into Jotaro's soul, which he uses to determine whether Jotaro is lying or not. However, contrary to his deduction that Jotaro was not lying about his pitch, his pitches turn out to be different from expected. This leads D'Arby to suspect that Jotaro is cheating somehow, though in a way that cannot be deciphered by his Stand's reliance on yes/no questions. As D'Arby desperately tries to find out how Jotaro is cheating, Jotaro wins more homeruns, resulting in D'Arby subconsciously admitting defeat and releasing Kakyoin's soul. At last, D'Arby discovers that Joseph was the one cheating on Jotaro's behalf the entire time, using Hermit Purple to control the video game while Jotaro handled Atum's questions. While Jotaro dishes swift punishment to D'Arby, opening up a way out of the game room, DIO's right-hand man, Vanilla Ice,[lower-alpha 19] cuts off his own head to provide DIO with the blood needed to complete his assimilation of Jonathan's body, but DIO turns it down and brings him back to life, stating he will get blood from someone else and sending him to attack the others. However, Josuke and Okuyasu manage to deduce what's happening from a wound on Koichi's hand and head inside Rohan's house. Rohan uses his manuscript to put Okuyasu under Heaven Door's power, writing an instruction that will cause him to commit suicide if Josuke tries to help him. Josuke is then forced to attack him directly, closing his eyes to prevent himself from viewing his manuscript. Rohan insults Josuke's hairstyle in order to provoke him into opening his eyes, but this backfires as Josuke doesn't even acknowledge the manuscript due to being literally blinded by rage. As Josuke beats Rohan to a pulp, Koichi explains that when Josuke was four years old, he came down with the same deadly fever, which is infered to have been caused by Dio. When he and his mother got stuck in a blizzard on their way to hospital, a student with a regent hairstyle helped them get moving, inspiring Josuke to copy his hairstyle and take offense to anyone who insults it.

In a flashback, it is revealed that Giorno, who was once abused by his step-father and bullied by other kids, began being treated with respect after saving an injured gangster, giving him a reason to live. Back in the present, faced with Bucciarati's Stand, Sticky Fingers, Giorno desperately uses Gold Experience to defend himself, which causes Bucciarati's senses to go berserk after being hit. Bucciarati creates a dimension distorting zipper to try and escape inside another person, but Giorno tracks him down by turning one of Bucciarati's teeth into a fly. Despite beating Bucciarati in a duel, Giorno decides against finishing him off, instead asking to join his organization so he can defeat his boss and take over the city.
