Jenifer Burrage Branning (born March 13, 1979) is an American lawyer and politician. She serves as a Republican member of the Mississippi State Senate.
Early life
Jenifer Branning was born on March 13, 1979.[1] Her family has lived in Neshoba County, Mississippi for five generations.[2]
Branning graduated from Mississippi State University, where she received a bachelor of arts degree.[1] She received a juris doctor from the Mississippi College School of Law in 2004.[1]
Career
Branning is a lawyer in Philadelphia, Mississippi.[2] In 2015, she ran to win state senator Giles Ward's seat.[2] She has served as a Republican member of the Mississippi State Senate since January 2016,[2] where she represents District 18, including parts of Leake County, Neshoba County, and Winston County.[1]
Personal life
Branning has a husband, Chancy.[1] She is a Christian.[1]
Olen Lovell Burrage, Branning's grandfather, was tied to the Freedom Summer Murders of James E. Chaney, Andrew Goodman, and Micheal Schwerner. Branning's grandfather owned the earthen dam where the trio was buried and later discovered by the Federal Bureau of Investigation. Sometime before the murders, Burrage remarked about the "invasion" of Civil Rights workers coming to Mississippi. Burrage allegedly proclaimed that, "Hell, I've got a dam that'll hold a hundred of them."[3]
