Jeff Compher is an American collegiate athletics administrator. Most recently, Compher was athletic director at East Carolina University, a position he held from April 2013 to May of 2018.[1]
College
In 1980, Compher earned a bachelor's degree in psychology from James Madison University, where he also played football, then graduated from Shippensburg University in 1982 with a master's degree in counseling and student personnel services.[2]
Career
Compher became the athletic director for ECU in April 2013, after previously serving five years in the same role at Northern Illinois University.[2] Compher oversaw ECU's entrance into the American Athletic Conference, but his tenure was marred with on-field struggles, similar to when he was at Western Carolina. Because of Comphers inability to hire successful coaches, ECU bought out his contract in March of 2018 and he stepped down in May of the same year. He previously served as Athletic Director at Western Carolina University from 2000-2004, and held athletic administrative positions at North Carolina State University, Vanderbilt University, and the University of Washington.
Family
Compher is married to Cathy and the couple have two sons, C.J. and David.[2]
