Jeannie Chan (Chinese: 陳瀅; pinyin: Chén Yíng; born October 22, 1989) is a Canadian-born Hong Kong actress and model based in Hong Kong. She is currently signed to Shaw Brothers management and has an artiste contract with TVB.

Early life

Jeannie Chan was born in Toronto, Canada but moved to Vancouver at a young age, she and her older sister were raised by her grandmother. Before she was born, her biological father passed away, consequently she changed her name from 鄭鈺瑩 to 陳瀅 as she had a close relationship with her stepfather.[1] Her stepfather runs a large real-estate company in Guangzhou and she is from an upper class family, however she has mentioned that she doesn't have a good relationship with her mother. She also has a younger stepbrother. She graduated from University of British Columbia with a Bachelor of Business Administration, being an exchange student in City University of Hong Kong for a year.

Personal life

Friendship

She is best friends with Stephanie Ho and Moon Lau as they became close when filming 'Raising The Bar' in 2014.[2] She was roommates with Stephanie Ho for a year (2015-2016).[3] She is also close friends with Venus Wong, Kandy Wong, Cheronna Ng, Winki Lai and Anjaylia Chan from filming 'Never Dance Alone', they are known as 'M Club'.[4] She also owns two dogs, Diesel and Baymax.[5]

Relationship

In December 2015, she admitted to dating Arnaldo Ho, the son of Macau casino tycoon (Stanley Ho), but announced their break up half a year later.[6]

Career

Modelling

She became a model when she was an exchange student in Hong Kong and later joined the modeling agency Starzpeople.[7] Since then, Jeannie has been in many Hong Kong ads and commercials, usually working with skin care, makeup and fashion brands. She released her own photo book 'Half-Transparent Dancer (半透明的舞孃)' on 21 August 2015.[8] In 2018, she concluded her contract with Starzpeople as she wanted to focus on acting.

Acting

In 2013, she signed a preliminary contract with TVB and began to act in dramas. In 2014, she acted in her first TVB drama 'Never Dance Alone' as teen version of Yung Dan Dan. In 2015, she acted as one of the main characters in legal drama 'Raising The Bar', attracting lots of attention from netizens and received a Best Supporting Actress nomination at the TVB Anniversary Awards 2015. In 2016, she continued to take on supporting roles and acting in dramas. In 2017, she was the second lead in drama, "The No No Girl', which rose her to popularity and she is often referred to as goddess (女神). For that role, she received multiple nominations including Best Supporting Actress and Most Improved Actress. She also filmed a short comedy for the drama named 'Bad Hotel Guest'[9] which rose to popularity with over 1.3M+ views and received a Finalist Certificate from the New York Film Festival.[10] In early 2018, she had a brief guest appearance in drama 'The Forgotten Valley', despite her short screen time, audiences praised her acting skills as she had to experience uncomfortable times during filming.[11] On 21 March 2018, she signed a 5 year artiste management contract with Shaw Brothers.[12]

Business

In March 2017, Jeannie and her best friend, Anna, established an online jewellery brand called, Onliest & Co.[13] She advertised her jewellery through Instagram posts, attracting worldwide customers. In December, they launched a HMV flagship store in Causeway Bay.
