Janice Pearson (born 12 April 1959) is an English actress known for playing Kath Shaughnessy in the BBC1 continuing drama Holby City, and receptionist Karen Hollins in BBC1's daytime soap Doctors, which she joined in February 2009. In 2010, Pearson won the award of 'Best On-Screen Partnership' for her role as Karen Hollins with Chris Walker.[1]

Early life

Born and brought up in Wollaston near Stourbridge, Pearson always wanted to be a doctor. When she realised she did not have the qualifications to become a general practitioner she wanted to be an actress.

When Pearson was younger, she worked in the Royal Exchange pub on High Street in Stourbridge for many years.[2]

Career

Pearson has played Ann Davis in The Bill, Kath Shaughnessy in Holby City, Heather Deans in Silent Witness and she has also appeared in Wycliffe, and now portrays receptionist Karen Hollins on Doctors. Pearson appeared as a Pandemonium Drummer in the 2012 Olympics opening ceremony and as a Marshall in the closing ceremony.

In 2001, she appeared on the BBC's Children in Need with two other Holby City cast members, one of them was Adrian Lewis Morgan who played Liam Evans in Holby City and now plays Dr. Jimmi Clay in Doctors with Pearson.

Pearson has appeared in films such as Martha, Meet Frank, Daniel and Laurence and Terror! Robespierre and the French Revolution.

Career on Doctors

Since 23 February 2009, Pearson played the role of Black Country receptionist, Karen Hollins, in the BBC soap opera Doctors where she stars alongside her family: Rob Hollins (Chris Walker), Imogen Hollins (Charlie Clemmow) & Jack Hollins (Nicolas Woodman).

Soap Awards

In the 2010 Soap Awards, Pearson & Chris Walker, who plays Jan's on-screen husband Rob Hollins, were nominated for 'Best On-Screen Partnership', alongside EastEnders', Patsy Palmer & Sid Owen, Coronation Streets Katherine Kelly & Simon Gregson, and Emmerdales Nick Miles & Nicola Wheeler. Pearson and Walker won the award adding the second win of the night for Doctors.[1]

In 2012, Jan was nominated for Best Comedy Performance.[3]
