James Bloom

James Bloom (born 1975) is a screenwriter, director and creative director known for his work in television, advertising and online entertainment.[1] He is the grandson of Freddy Bloom OBE.

Career

He started his career as a journalist, writing for The Guardian newspaper[2][3] at 19 years old and from the age of 20 as Contributing Editor at GQ magazine. He also worked on the launch of Wired magazine in the UK[4] with Tony Ageh OBE.

Bloom subsequently worked as writer and creative at advertising agency Lateral,[5] creating the Levi's Engineered Jeans '404' ads.[6] He then played a key role in the creation of digital TV channel PlayJam at Static2358,[5] a TV entertainment channel sold to OpenTV for $59 million.[7]

Working with Heroes creator Tim Kring, he wrote and directed the online series 'Conspiracy For Good'.[8] The series received 9 million views online. His comedy short 'Bass Jump'[9] received 1.5 million views and positioned No. 6 in Go Viral's chart for 2010.[10] His TV ads include work for American Express, Barclaycard, Vision Express, Ryanair and Google at advertising agencies including Dare, J. Walter Thompson, Bartle Bogle Hegarty and Ogilvy & Mather.

His short comedy 'Love Your Neighbour' was funded by Working Title Films and the British Council,[11] appearing at Edinburgh International Film Festival, Berlin International Film Festival, Portobello Film Festival[12] and winning High Commendation at the TCM Classic Shorts Film Competition.

'Walking the Dog', a TV comedy script written by Bloom, won Silver at the Hollywood Screenplay Contest,[13] and was also celebrated at the PAGE Awards,[14] Back in the Box and CWA Awards. His TV comedy script 'Peeling the Melon' won Best TV Pilot at the WFSA Awards,[15] won ScriptFest screenplay competition, was a Finalist at ScreenCraft Fellowship [16] and Semi-Finalist at Screenplay Festival [17].
