Júlio Resende is a Portuguese pianist and composer. He is active as a jazz musician (both as a bandleader and as a sideman for artists like Maria João, Salvador Sobral and Cristina Branco) and is also involved in the Fado scene, having recorded a solo piano tribute to Amália Rodrigues and collaborating with singers like António Zambujo, Ana Moura and Aldina Duarte. He is also the leader of Alexander Search, a Rock band fronted by Eurovision Song Contest 2017 winner Salvador Sobral and inspired by Portuguese poet Fernando Pessoa.[1][2][3]

Early life

Resende started playing the piano when only 4 years old and then studied in the Conservatory in Faro.[4]

Biography

In 2001 he moved to Lisbon to study in Universidade Nova de Lisboa where he involved in the musical activities of the Hot Clube de Portugal. In that period he took part he a lot of workshops where he worked with musicians from the Hot Clube, New School for Jazz and Contemporary Music, Berklee College of Music and Bill Evans Academy.[5]

Later he moved to Paris to study in Université de St. Denis – Paris VIII.

In 2018, on Eurovision Song Contest 2018 he played the piano on one of the grand final interval acts along with Salvador Sobral and Caetano Veloso.[6][7]
