Iskra Arabella Lawrence (born 11 September 1990) is an Plus size British model[3] represented by JAG Models and Models 1[4]. Lawrence is the global Role Model for Aerie,[5] a brand of clothing from American Eagle Outfitters. She is also a National Eating Disorders Association (NEDA) brand ambassador[6] and creator of the NEDA Inspires Award[7].[8]

Background

Lawrence was born in Wolverhampton[9] and grew up in Kidderminster, Worcestershire from the age of 6 weeks.[10] Lawrence attended Malvern St James[11] and then Bromsgrove School,[12] was a competitive national swimmer,[13] and was accepted into the UK National Youth Theatre[14] at 15.

Modeling

Lawrence does not allow any of her Instagram photos to be retouched in any way to enhance her image.[15] She actively criticizes "body shamers",[16] including one user that she confronted in April 2016 on her Instagram account after the user insulted her.[17][18] She does not want to be classified as a plus-sized model.[19]

Lawrence is a model for the American Eagle Outfitters lingerie line Aerie.[20][21][22] She has also modeled for lingerie brand, Adore Me.[23]

In 2016, Lawrence was chosen as one of BBC's World's 100 Women, and one of the six women chosen for World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts Great Girl Leaders.[24]

In February 2017, Lawrence presented "Ending the pursuit of perfection" at TEDxUniversityofNevada.[25]

After 13 years of modeling Lawrence completed her catwalk debut at New York Fashion Week[26] for Chromat in 2016, and walked in L'Oréal's first fashion show at Paris Fashion week in October 2017.[27]

In 2017, Lawrence appeared in the Straight Curve documentary "about body image and the industry leaders challenging society's unrealistic and dangerous standards of beauty".[28]

American Eagle Outfitters choose Lawrence along with five other millennials for their Fall 2017 jean campaign "The New American Jean",[29] which makes use of unretouched images.[30][31]

Lawrence was listed in the 'multi-hyphenates' category of the 2017 Maxim HOT 100.[32]

In 2018 Lawrence was announced as a L'Oréal Princes Trust Ambassador, and a brand ambassador for Marina Rinaldi's Persona collection campaign.

Other work

Lawrence was a contributor to Self magazine,[33][34] and was the founding managing editor at Runway Riot, a website meant to be an outlet for women of all shapes and sizes to learn about glamour.[35]

In 2018 Lawrence was the host of "The Mirror Challenge with Iskra" a Facebook Watch series from Clevver Media a brand of Defy Media[36]. As the creator of the show's main concept Lawrence also received a producer credit for the program.
