Iragavaram Mandal is one of the 46 Mandals in West Godavari district of the Indian state of Andhra Pradesh.[1] The headquarters are located at Iragavaram town. The mandal is bordered by Peravali mandal and Penugonda mandal to north, Penumantra mandal to the east, Attili mandal to the south, and Tanuku mandal to the west.[2]

Demographics

As of 2011 census, the mandal had a population of 65,831 in 19,482 Households. The total population constitute, 33,202 males and 32,629 females with a sex ratio of 983 females per 1000 males. [3] 6,283 children are in the age group of 0–6 years, of which 3,205 are boys and 3,078 are girls with a sex ratio of 960. The average literacy rate stands at 77.39% with 46,084 literates of which 24,341 are males and 21,743 are females.[4]

Majority are Schedule Caste with a population of 11,586 whereas Schedule Tribe had a population of 485.[5]

Work Profile

As per the report published by Census India in 2011, 28,956 people were engaged in work activities out of the total population of Iragavaram mandal which includes 20,631 males and 8,325 females.

According to census survey report 2011, 24,751 workers describe their work as main work, 3,260 as Cultivators, 15,438 person work as Agricultural labourers. 461 are working in Household industry and 5,592 are involved in other works. Of them 4,205 are Marginal workers.[6]

Administration

Iragavaram mandal is administered under Tanuku (Assembly constituency)[7] of Narsapuram (Lok Sabha constituency)[8] and one of the twelve mandals that falls under Narasapuram revenue division.

As of 2011 census, the mandal has 21 settlements, of which all are villages. Iragavaram is the largest and Garuvuguntakhandrika is the smallest village in terms of population. [9]

Education

The mandal plays a major role in education for the rural students of the nearby villages.The primary (Elementary) and secondary school (middle school) education is imparted by government, aided by private schools, under the School Education Department of the state.[10] As per the school information report for the academic year 2015–16, the mandal has more than 6,167 students enrolled in over 70 schools.[11][12]
