Inam Kulathur (இனாம் குளத்தூர்) is a historic and one of the biggest village in Tiruchirappalli District. It is also called Vellang Kulathur and Namana Samuthiram. This area was fully covered by an agricultural reservoir, so this village name is called Kulathur. There are now a single large lake of approximately 300 acres and several ponds near the village. Inam Kulathur also refers to the surrounding area. There are 10,000 peoples are living in the village.There are many families living here with the heritage name like Samburuthi (சம்புருதி) and etc...

Inam Kulathur has been ruled, at different times, by the Early Cholas, Early Pandyas, Later Cholas, Delhi Sultanate, Madurai Sultanate, Arcot Nawab and the British, prior to the formation of the Republic of India. Tiruchirappalli played a critical role in the Ponnar - Sangar history.

Inam Kulathur is Located 18 km Away from Trichy Headquarters an industrial and educational hub of Trichy. The factories of Indian Oil Corporation Bottling Point and Janani Marbles and granites are located in Inam Kulathur.The educational institutions such as R.V.S International school and Management, Awniya public school,Moulana jamali matric school, R.V.S Arts and science college, R.V.S-KVK architecture college, The New Polytechnic college, RVS-KVK institute of management, H.M.Y Government Higher Secondary School, Panchayat union high scool and jamaliyaa arabic college are located in the village. The Village has a Raiway station on Trichy to Dindigul main railway line. kolatur railway station is second railway station from trichy junction railway station on dindigul line. Some of trains such as Trichy-Dindigul passenger, Mayiladuthurai-Tirunelveli fast passenger,villupuram-madurai passenger,dindigul-trichy passenger, tirunelveli-mayiladuthurai passenger and madurai- villupuram passenger trains will stop here.
