Syed Imad Wasim Haider, commonly known as Imad Wasim, (born 18 December 1988) is a Welsh-born Pakistani cricketer who played in the 2006 U-19 Cricket World Cup for the national team and has also played first-class, List A cricket and Twenty20 cricket in Pakistan.[2] He represented Islamabad Leopards team in Faysal Bank T20 Cup 2012–13 season. He is a left-handed batsman and a left-arm orthodox bowler. He is the current captain of Karachi Kings.
In August 2018, he was one of thirty-three players to be awarded a central contract for the 2018–19 season by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB).[3][4]
Early career
Wasim was born in Swansea, Wales.[5] His father briefly worked in the UK as an engineer.[6] Wasim's parents moved to Pakistan when he was at a very early age, and he consequently played all first-class cricket there.[7] He became the first Welsh-born cricketer to represent Pakistan and loves Pakistan very much.[8][9]
International career
He made his Twenty20 International debut for Pakistan against Zimbabwe in Lahore on 24 May 2015.[10] He made his One Day International debut for Pakistan against Sri Lanka on 19 July 2015.[11] He was selected in the Pakistan squad for the 2016 ICC World Twenty20. Wasim was also a member of the winning Pakistan team in the 2017 ICC Champions Trophy. In the final against India, Wasim scored a swift 25 runs from 21 deliveries, including a six and a boundary, and helped Pakistan reach a massive total of 338 runs. This total was more than enough to defeat India in the final, by a world-record 180 runs, and hand Pakistan its maiden ICC Champions Trophy title.[12]

Controversies and scandals
In 2017, an Afghanistan-born Dutch woman claimed that she had been in a relationship with Imad Wasim. She alleged that they had met for the first time in London. She went on to call Wasim a 'disloyal person'.[14] She also claimed that Imad had promised to marry her, but refused to acknowledge her later.[15] Imad claimed that his images with that woman were forged. He also denied the relationship, saying that she was just his fan blackmailing to get media attention.[16][15] In response, the woman released their WhatsApp messages, proving that they were in contact.[14]
