IIMUN (India’s International Movement to Unite Nations) is an organisation based in India which conducts simulations of United Nations and Indian parliament in different cities. Students discuss topics of national and international interest in order to attract more students to the field of diplomacy and workings of the government. Their founder, Rishabh Shah, aims to place India in a prominent position in the global order, as mentioned by one of the dailies. It has also organised a conference inside the United Nations Headquarters, New York in August 2016 and August 2017.[1]

History

Rishabh Shah founded this organisation in the year 2012 after completing his degree from Trinity College, London. On returning to India he saw how little interest was taken by schools in India in the concept of Model United Nations, which he had participated in while in Europe and USA and happens to be a regular event in universities there. Thus he embarked on creating a similar platform in India.[2]

Issues discussed

At IIMUN, various issues are discussed by students and luminaries such as the 26/11 Attacks on Mumbai, whose discussions took place in Taj Mahal Palace Hotel in the presence of then Chief Minister of Maharashtra, Mr. Prithviraj Chavan & Lawyer Ram Jethmalani,[3] the demonetisation effects in India, threat that ISIS has evolved into[4] among several topics. There is also a noted discussion on the agenda of getting India a permanent seat in United Nations Security Council by conducting a walk in Mumbai with 7500 students who were participating in the World's Largest Model United Nations conference conducted by IIMUN in the presence of Union Minister Piyush Goyal.[5]

Board of Advisors

The first Advisory board of IIMUN is composed of Indian luminaries who are from different walks of life.
