"I'm a Lady" is a song recorded by American singer-songwriter Meghan Trainor for the Smurfs: The Lost Village soundtrack. It was released on February 24, 2017, through Epic Records and Sony Music Entertainment for the animated movie, Smurfs: The Lost Village.[2] The song was written and co-produced by Trainor and Martin René, with additional production being handled by the Monsters and the Strangerz.[3]

Background

Trainor announced the song at the 2016 KIIS-FM Jingle Ball, saying "It's an upbeat, 'love yourself' woman anthem. It goes like...'Cause I'm a lady...and then the BEAT DROPS!' It's pretty fire."[4] Prior to "I'm a Lady"'s release, Trainor teased the song and the music video on her social media accounts.[5] She announced the release date on February 21, 2017.[5]

Critical reception

Mike Wass of Idolator stated that is a "return to the retro-pop of Title—albeit with the same verve and attitude that marked the Thank You era" and went on to say "the cute bop has a positive message and a campy spoken interlude towards the end."[6]

Music video

A music video for the song was released on March 3, 2017 at Vevo, directed by Hannah Lux Davis.[2]
