Hwang Ui-jo (Hangul: 황의조; Korean pronunciation: [hwaŋ.ɰi.dʑo], [hwaŋ.i.dʑo] or [hwaŋ] [ɰi.dʑo]; born 28 August 1992) is a South Korean footballer who plays as striker for Gamba Osaka in the J1 League and the South Korea national football team.[1]

Club career

Seongnam FC

He was selected by Seongnam Ilhwa Chunma in 2013 K League 1 Draft. He made his debut goal against Suwon Samsung Bluewings on 3 March 2013.[2]

Gamba Osaka

On June 2017, Hwang made two-year contract with J1 League club Gamba Osaka.[3]

International career

Hwang scored his first international goal against Jamaica on October 13, 2015.

U-23

2018 Asian Games

Hwang Ui-jo participated in 2018 Jakarta Asian Games as a wild card for South Korea national U-23 team. On August 15, Hwang made three goals in the first group-stage match against Bahrain U-23. On August 17, Hwang scored his fourth goal against Malaysia U-23. On August 23, Hwang scored his fifth goal against Iran U-23 in Round of 16. In the quarter-final, Hwang lead South Korea 4-3 victory against Uzbekistan U-23 with his explosive hat-trick. On August 29, Hwang added a goal versus Vietnam U-23 in the semi-final match. With nine goals out of seven matches, his overwhelming performance greatly supported the team’s gold medal.[4]
