Hussain Dawood (Urdu: حسین داؤد) (born 1943) is a Pakistani businessman, educationist and an ardent philanthropist.[1]

Early life and career

Hussain Dawood was born in 1943 in Bombay (now Mumbai), India.[1] He is the Chairman of Engro Corporation, Dawood Hercules Corporation Limited, Karachi Education Initiative[3], Karachi School for Business & Leadership[4], and The Dawood Foundation.[2][5][6][7][8]

He is also Member of the World Economic Forum and its Global Agenda Councils of Anti-Corruption and Education.[1]

Education

Hussain Dawood has an MBA degree from the Kellogg School of Management, Northwestern University, United States, and is a graduate in Metallurgy from Sheffield University, UK.[1][11]

Philanthropic Work

The Dawood Foundation is a private charitable trust in Pakistan, formed by Hussain’s father, Ahmed Dawood, in 1961. Hussain Dawood assumed the chairmanship of it in 2000. It operates various schools and supports the Engro Foundation. It has also done work in the sphere of medical care and has assisted in Pakistan those affected by the 2005 earthquake, 2010 floods, and the tsunami of 2004 in Pakistan.[14]

Awards and recognition

  • Hussain Dawood received Lifetime Achievement Award by Marketing Association of Pakistan in 2016[2]
  • He was awarded "Ufficiale Ordine Al merito della Republica Italiana" by the Republic of Italy.[6]
