Hush (stylized as HUSH) is the 61st single by Japanese artist Koda Kumi. The single was announced on September 9, 2017 and was released on October 4, 2017. As with her previous single, LIT, it only garnered a physical release at concert venues, her official fan club and on the Japanese site mu-mo.

The single was her second single of three planned released for 2017, her first being LIT in August and the third, Never Enough, which was released in December. Despite being a single, only "LIT" and "Never Enough" were included on the subsequent album AND [1] "HUSH" would go on to be placed on her album DNA, which would be released six months after AND.

Information

HUSH is the 61st single by Japanese singer-songwriter Kumi Koda under the avex sub-label Rhythm Zone. The release was announced on September 9 and was her second single of three planned releases for the year of 2017, her first being LIT, which was released on August 2.[2][3] As with her previous single, a physical release was only available at concert venues for Live Tour 2017 ~W Face~, her official fan club Koda Gumi and on the popular music site mu-mo.[4]

As with her previous single, due to having no physical release, the song failed to chart on the Oricon Singles Charts. The single was only released as a CD, which contained the title track, along with its corresponding instrumental. It was given a limited release during the concert venues and each CD that was purchased through the venues carried one of five stickers.[5][6] Those who purchased all three singles from the same official shop received a tote bag, which featured a different print depending on which shop all three singles were purchased from. For mu-mo, customers had to use the same login I.D to acquire the limited tote.

"HUSH" was a hip-hop piece composed by Swedish musical composer and songwriter Louise Frick-Sveen, who had previously worked with South Korean group SF9 for their song "Fanfare" in July along with Albin Nordqvist.[7] The lyrics to "HUSH" were written by Kumi and TEEDA from the group BACK-ON.[8] This was the first time TEEDA was given a solo credit on one of Kumi's songs, whereas Kumi had worked with all of the members for songs in the past - most notably "Poppin' love cocktail," which had featured TEEDA, and "Bring It On" from her W Face ~inside~ studio album.[9][10]

Music video

The music video for "HUSH" was performed on one set with Kumi donning turnout trousers, which is typically worn by firefighters. Her outfit was inspired by the overall theme of the video, which was fire and heat. This is further evidenced by the graphics on the screen, which circle around Kumi throughout its entirety.

Kumi dances solo in the video, featuring none of her usual backup dancers, in a white room while graphics are editing in to swirl around her. Some of the graphics include a barbell, boxing gloves, flames and a telephone. The dancing she performs in the video is hip-hop. In the midst of the video, it shows Kumi sitting in an arm chair as she sets fire in her hand. The video ends with red roses being burned, turning to blackened ash.

The choreography for the dance utilized in the video was done by Fuko Takenaka, who has been with Kumi for several years.
