  • The Xiongnu, a confederation of nomadic tribes in North-East Asia from the 3rd Century BCE to the late 1st Century CE, which has been linked to the European Huns.
  • The Hunas, "Iranian Huns" and/or Xionites: groups of nomadic tribes that invaded and/or settled in Central Asia and South Asia, between the 4th and 7th Centuries. These included the:
    • "Red Huns" also known in European sources as the Kermichiones and in Iranian sources as the Karmir Xyon, who were
    • "White Huns", known in Iranian as the Spet Xyon and in Indian sources by the cognate Sveta-huna, and
