Hlwan Paing (Burmese: လွှမ်းပိုင်; born 1 March 1989) is a well-known Burmese singer, songwriter, actor and model. He is best known for his hip hop music and rose to fame with his debut collaborative album, Done Pyan (Rocket).[1][2][3]

Early life and education

Hlwan Paing was born on 1 March 1989 in Taunggyi, Shan State, Myanmar. He is the youngest son of three siblings. His elder brother Kyaw Su is also actor.[4] He graduated from Thanlyin Technological University.

Career

Music career

Hlwan Paing started out on his music career as a member of the underground outfit 89 while still a university student, composing songs and singing together. Shortly after, he was first contacted by Ah Boy, who was a member of Rock$tar group. He became last member of Rock$tar, Burmese hip hop group.[5] Since then he started working with mainstream artists.[6]

He gained recognition in 2009 when he was picked as one of the featured artists for Ye Lay's Tat Ta Ya Kar Yan (Third Rhyme) from the album of song Ma Nhoute Sat Chin Bu (Do Not Want To Say Good Bye), he feat hip-hop rapping in song.[7] He got his big break in music industry with his song called "Done Pyan" and "Bo Kay", songs from "Done Pyan" album.

Hlwan Paing had released a collaborative album "Done Pyan" (Rocket) with hip-hop singer Bobby Soxer on 21 November 2011.[8] "This album gained “The best music album award” given by both Shwe FM and City FM, they donated 1 Million Myanmar Kyats from selling gained gold prize for Rocket music album to orphan children from “Thu Kha Yike Myone” charity organization. Since he has released a collaborative album, participated in many group albums and performed in many concerts.

Hlwan Paing started endeavoring to be able to produce and distribute a solo album. He launched his solo album "Gi Ta Sar So Hlwan Paing" on 8 June 2014. "Gi Ta Sar So Hlwan Paing" video album was released on 12 February 2016.[9] One of the songs from that album named “Min Ye Kyaw Swar Bo Nay Toe” was most popular song of Myanmar as converting a movie.[10] He also sung “Ko Ko” song with Bobby Soxer and Eaint Chit together and that song won "The Best Music award" given by Shwe FM.[2]

Hlwan Paing's second album called "Gita Bay Da" was released on 24 June 2017.[11][12][13]

Acting career

He has been presenting and acting in a travel documentary called "Let’s Go" together with other artists, Bunny Phyoe, Kyaw Htut Swe, Nan Thu Zar, Nan Myat Phyo Thin, and Bobby Soxer.[14][15][16][17]

While he planned to present in "Let's Go To Europe", an extension of Let's Go Programme, he also started acting his leading first film "Old Jacket" (ဂျာကင်ဟောင်းလေး) with actress Khin Wint Wah and directed by Aung Zaw Lin, film released in February 2016.[18]

In 2015, He starring in his second film "67 Plaza" with Thai actress Kaew Korravee, film released in June 2018.[19] In 2016, Hlwan Paing starring in Big-screen movie Kyway (ကြွေ) with actress Ei Chaw Po, film based on novel "Pyaw Tine Yone Tak Pote Thin Nyo" (ပြောတိုင်းယုံတဲ့ပုတ်သင်ညို), written by the author Min Lu, directed by Thar Nyi. The movie which showing in Myanmar cinemas in 20 July 2018.[20][21][22][7][23]

In 2017, Hlwan Paing starring in Big-screen movie "Ko Saung Nat" (ကိုယ်စောင့်နတ်), playing the lead role with Khin Wint Wah, this film directed by Win Lwin Htet, novel and producer by Hlwan Paing, will be releasing coming.[24][25][26] He started starring in his first Big Screen Movie, "Nga Ko Nann Tae Mone Tine" (The Strom That Kissed Me) playing the lead acting with actress Phway Phway and Ye Yint Aung, directed by Aung Zaw Lin and Win Lwin Htet, the movie which showing in Myanmar cinemas in 1 June 2018.

He was appointed as brand ambassador of Ve Ve on 28 February 2015 and also as brand ambassador of Vivo-Y55 smart phone in 2016.[27][28]
