Hero of Albania, more properly Hero of the People (Albanian: Hero i Popullit) is the highest title that can be bestowed on a citizen of Albania.
Creation
The title was created in 1945[1] and the Albanian parliament confirmed it by Law in 1954 and then reconfirmed by Law Nr.6133 on February 12, 1980. The creation of the award was a way to honor Albanian citizens for having made valuable contributions to Albania or to the Albanian people.[2]

- After the discovery of many crimes during and the continued demands of the public opinion, the issue of dictator decorations and a number of other senior communist officials was discussed in 1995. By decree no. 1018, issued on 13 February 1995, the President of the Republic Sali Berisha, because of genocide exercised against the Albanian people during the years of communist dictatorship, removed all honor and honorary titles for the criminal act of Enver Hoxha, Nexhmije Hoxha, Shefqet Peçi, Hysni Kapo, Gogo Nushi, Spiro Koleka, Haki Toska and Haxhi Lleshi[3].
