Hefin Wyn David is the Welsh Labour Assembly Member for Caerphilly. He was elected in the Welsh General Election of 5 May 2016 on 35.3% of the vote with a majority of 1,575 votes over second-placed Plaid Cymru. Hefin replaced Jeff Cuthbert, AM.[1]

Hefin David was, until May 2017, a councillor for the St Cattwg ward on Caerphilly County Borough Council. During the 2012- 2017 term, he was chair of a number of committees including Policy and Resources Scrutiny.[2]

Despite the common surname, he is no relation to Wayne David, the Labour MP for the same constituency.

Education

He earned a BScEcon in Economics and Politics, and an MScEcon in European Policy, both from Cardiff University, a PGCE from the University of Wales, Newport and a PhD from the University Of Gloucestershire. He was a senior lecturer at the University of Wales, Newport and then Cardiff Metropolitan University.[3]
