Han Hong (simplified Chinese: 韩红; traditional Chinese: 韓紅; pinyin: Hán Hóng; Tibetan name Yangchen Drolma དབྱངས་ཅན་སྒྲོལ་མ་, simplified Chinese: 央金卓玛; traditional Chinese: 央金卓瑪; pinyin: Yāngjīn Zhuōmǎ), is a Chinese singer and songwriter of mixed Tibetan and Han ethnicity. She was born in Chamdo on September 26, 1971. Like her mother, a Tibetan singer, Han Hong is able to shift quite easily from piercing high pitches to soft low tones. Han Hong is one of the most popular Chinese female musicians who specializes in a variety of Chinese folk music. Most of Han's work reflect the Tibetan culture, but Han also use elements of Jazz, R-n-B, Rock-n-Roll and Latin music in her music work.[1]

Biography

Han Hong was born in a family of performers in 1971, and sang in the choir at the age of 5. Her father was a Han Chinese rusticated youth who came to Tibet during the Cultural Revolution, and her mother was a Tibetan singer named Yongxi.

At the age of six, Hong's father died.[2]"My father has left us, our life has been going worse and worse since his death. Because my mother was extremely busy working as an actor, I did not have a happy childhood at all."

She joined the children's choir in 1980 and received formal training.

In 1987, she joined the PLA second artillery corps command.

Han Hong started composing in 1993. She has written a number of popular songs for other singers.[3]

In the 1990s, she was considered a frontline singer in the Beijing music scene.[4]

In 1995, she was admitted to the music department of the Chinese people's liberation army college and learned from Li Shuangjiang.[5]

In 1999, she adopted a boy named "Han Houhou".[6]

She came to prominence after 2002.[7]

She performed in a Chinese television gala broadcast after the Olympic closing ceremony on August 24, 2008. She also performed at the 2008 Summer Paralympics opening ceremony on September 5, 2008.

In Oct 2015, she became the CEO of Hualu Entertainment company, which includes businesses of creating Television episodes, creating original shows, and managing performances.[8]

The characteristics of songs

Her music mainly deals with Tibetan themes but she is also influenced by Jazz, R-n-B, Rock-n-Roll and Latin music, which are all reflected in her work. She is able to shift quite easily from piercing high pitches to soft low tone;

Career

In 1996, she won the gold medal of the competition of the election of Chinese singers, which was held by the ministry of culture of Dalian. In the same year, she won the gold awards of creation and singing in the singing "Kong Fansen" vocal music competition held by the ministry of culture.

Since 1996 ,she started to write lyrics and made music albums for other singers. Her main works are "good night, my love", "Chinese nation", "have you a take off", etc. She also sing the theme songs for some TV series such as"the sui and tang dynasties kingdoms", "the police film children", the ancient city of spring breeze fights wildfires ".

In 1997, she wrote and recorded her debut album "snow field light" and then the first radio recommendation song "snow field light" was released.

In 1998, she wrote "beauty in the wind and rain".

Showing concert the new song of "snow fields "was held at the China children's theatre in Beijing on September 24.

On April 27, 1999, as one of the singer representatives of Beijing, she participated in the assembly of some talented singers who were good at mandarin songs and from Beijing, Guangdong or Hongkong. It’s the first time for her to show on the stage of Beijing capital gymnasium.

Significant Music Works

Han's signature works are Tibetan Plateau (青藏高原) and Heaven's Road (天路). Tibetan Plateau is very famous and went international. Vitas, the famous Russian singer, sang this song in duet (video is below) at the BTV [television] Spring Global Gala 2010.[13]

Heaven's Road is a folk song released on April 20, 2005 in her Album "Moved" to celebrate the opening of a railway to Tibet in 2006.[14] Written in 2001, the song is very popular in China.[15]

Social and Charity Activities
